Request for feedback on 62' Jag

This was billed as all-original with the exception of one bridge saddle by an established vintage gear seller (700+ feedback on Reverb, all positive).

I pulled the trigger because it was a good deal, and there are things that to me point to originality. What do you guys think?

Hard to tell from the pics, but, what do the nail holes look like and have you seen the body date? Should be in pencil.

Refin with a bad relic job

It’s not hard to find the listing, so I did. It was sold as a refin.

Can anyone comment on the originality of the pickguard or the idea that it could have been CAR originally? Both seem suspect to me.

A vintage guitar without the original pickguard would not be “all original” to me.

Can't say for certain, but it looks like to me that the bridge cover is a modern reissue ... they are slightly different shape (end/edge) than the original 50/60/70s covers.

Also the plastic tip of the trem arm looks too white... could also be a modern reissue

This was on reverb for a couple of months selling as a refin at a low price about 4 months ago?

i've never seen wear like that. for a minute, i thought maybe it had been in a case before the paint was fully cured. Those weird speckles...
It looks like an old body, but it looks like dakota under the fiesta, not car.
I didn't try to find that listing, so i don't know what you spent. Originality is not my first concern, so if the price was right, i'd be okay with it.
I might be tempted to see what's underneath all that paint.

bigger issue for me, would be the matched headstock.
If it's not one of those 'factory repaints', someone wrecked the original decal/headstock finish.

Neck is conceivably OK, would need to see more photos.

But that is a very poor relic job which with that scratchplate would put me right off, personally.

I can't see the Reverb listing, could someone post it please?

Pickguard looks original. Remove one of the mounting screws , and dig/scratch the countersink area a couple of times with the tip of the screw or an exacto blade then smell the scratch, it should put off a strong vicks vapor rub scent.

I would also like to see listing where it was sold as refin as seller claimed to me finish is original

“The finish has been redone a few times...”

This seller doesn’t have the kind of feedback you described, but it sure looks like the same instrument to me. Must be a previous transaction.

It looks like a refin to me.

Cool tip! Just curious what you’re seeing that makes you think the guard is original. To me it looks like the back side is almost the same color and it doesn’t have the kind of uneven discoloration I’d expect to see.

That said my vintage knowledge is limited at best.

I cancelled the purchase. Disappointing, and figured too good to be true.
