Re: 1962 Burgundy Mist Metallic VI
I don't normally comment on these "finds" ... I have my own 67 Bass VI and I prefer B&B on a bass VI ...
But man ... this is fucking ridiculous .... this is holy grail type ridiculous
the question should be asked ... where do you hide your time machine?
I can understand when I happen to pickup a "mint" 60s gibby or epi acoustic in as much as everyone is standard ... but a custom coloured Bass VI ordered from SA means the guy who ordered it actually knew what he wanted and was willing to pay for it ... yet it appears like its never been played. WTF?
btw ... awesome find

relaxing alternative to doing actual work ...

I think you nailed it, actually. This VI is really, really rare. I think you might even be able to say that the BMM finish on this VI is one of, if not THE nicest, on any vintage BMM Fender that’s still in existence. Either way, it’s a total unicorn and is a really special example.
There actually is some slight playwear on the back, some light ‘worming’ and a few very small little dings. So, the VI was played, but appears to be very well taken care of and then put into the case and not used for a very long time. The front of the VI is ridiculously clean as well as all the chrome bits and the finish is hard and like-new on the back of the neck. The key is that 99.99999% of the original finish is still intact and hasn’t been altered by UV, etc.
You can certainly find sets of original strings if you look, there are dealers/collectors that sell them but I think they’re expensive unless you happen upon some another way...

Here’s a pic of the back...you can see some very light worming and a few little nicks and marks from where it was played. The dude just took great care of the bass. He babied it and probably loved it, like we all do
You can’t really ask for more from a vintage bass than this, honestly - any cleaner and you would start to get very suspicious

You are to the Bass VI what Fenderbob is to the Mustang.
Now, please, a family photo.
