Gold vs Gold (Shoreline vs Firemist)

Wanted to post these as they are a great example of Shoreline Gold vs Firemist Gold...

The JM is a mid-late year Shoreline Gold ‘64, the body has yellowed a bit and is typical of the Shoreline Gold color you normally see but the headstock remains true to the original color without yellowing, and is lighter.

The XII is an early one with Klusons in the new-at-the-time Firemist Gold, built within 3-6 months or so of the JM!

I’m going to post some more photos later today so you can clearly see the differences between these two colors, which can be subtle in photos or online.

They almost look the same here, no? :)

Damn, that was you that got those? Saw them on instagram and they were gone immediately hahaha. Such a beautiful pair. The XII is ridiculous.

That JM is my old one, I stupidly sold it a few years ago and had been waiting to get it back...the XII just happened to come in with it so I pounced ;)

It’s interesting to see how similar they look here, given that these two colors tend to look very different to me most of the time.

yeah, depending on the light they can look quite similar, I think.

Those guitars do look very close in color and both look far darker there than in most photos of Shoreline gold guitars and Firemist gold guitars.

The first thing that popped into my head when seeing that photo is: "Damn, that is one spectacular guitar color".

maybe it’s the light or my crappy photo skills ;)

They are a fine pair, for sure. I too saw them on IG, must be a nice feeling getting the JM back. Did it have the Mastery fitted when you sold it?

no, that Mastery came extra - the original bridge is in the case.

Interesting that they look no more different than any two shorelines or firemists do next do each other, just from different aging conditions/UV exposure.

And my god are they both ever gorgeous.

Thanks for posting. That is a sweet combination there. The colours look very very similar to me but UV can do a lot to change the hue of an original colour. I've seen LPB guitars turn sage green with exposure. Very nice!!

I would put the original bridge back on personally if I owned it as I'm not keen on the look of the Mastery. A Staytrem doesn't look too bad but the original bridge is fine as long as the action isn't super low and the correct shims are still there.

why do I love gold guitars so much? Those are to die for.
