1972 Fender Mustang

Post by HNB » Wed Mar 06, 2019 10:22 am

I am so excited to have this guitar. I saw Gonk post it on Instagram and thought it was super cool looking... and then I saw him post it here for sale so I jumped on it. I love how worn it is. It just looks so stunning and loved. It sounds great! It is really amazing. The bridge isn't too bright or thin and the neck pickup is pretty amazing. I got a Seymour Duncan pickup booster to try out with this guitar. I love the look of single coil pickups but they just never feel like they have the thickness and full sound that I feel humbuckers give. The pedal works great with this. Only issue I am having is my living room is noisy electrical wise, so single coil noise is pretty awful and the booster (like any pedal that adds to signal) boosts the noise. I need to move my musical stuff to another place I guess where there is less tv's, computers, and such...

My plans are to lower the input jack since it is sitting above the plate and to put the black switches back in it. Otherwise it is perfect to me.

I’ve always wanted a birth year guitar, and although I’d rather have a Mustang bass with this type of wear, I’d have a hard time not throwing my hat in the ring if this ever turns up for sale again. :-*
The cool thing about fretless is you can hit a note...and then renegotiate.

That's lovely! I was drooling all over that Mustang when I saw the sale post. Worn to perfection (maybe a little beyond it? ;D ). I'm glad it's everything you expected it to be.

And btw I just saw a great matching 74 mustang bass:

That bass that sold is pretty sexy also! (Also those amps as well.)

I have the original switches in a baggy but I figure I will pop in some new ones since it is cheap. I love how you can see the layers of color worn through with the burst. (The red showing where black wore off and the yellow where red has worn off.) It is just super cool. The neck isn't perfectly smooth or anything, but all the wear marks and stuff (since it has a lot) actually feel like a nice texture. Really enjoying it. :D

Woah!! That thing's been played!!

If my pristine '72 Compstang was as worn as that I might still own it.

I like all of your guitars, but this is the coolest one you've posted as of yet.
Love it! :w00t:

Wow! The wear on that thing is simply perfect.

Did it come just like this or did you take the pictures after cleaning it up etc.?
