Crazy story.
What kind of cross-country shipping and handling costs $1300 though? Was it shipped back by buying a 2-seat round trip flight for a professional bodyguard who had it handcuffed to him like a case of diamonds?

Honestly? Probably, yes. Currier services are fucking insane. A bunch of the 6-figure priced guitars on reverb offer something along those lines because rightfully so people aren’t comfortable sending a $100,000 antique guitar through typical/prone to chaos at times shipping services. I don’t know about the handcuffs, but I could totally imagine sending it on a plane with some guy.

Sure, for $100,000 guitars, I get it. Similar to the case of diamonds. It makes sense to do that at that point.
But looking at this guy's age, and the fact that this story centered around what sounds like a son in his teens-20's, this theft likely happened in the 90's at the latest when the JM itself was worth around $1300. It sounds to me like maybe this "charitable" guy who offered to return the stolen guitar for "just $1300 shipping and handling" might have been charging what he paid/traded for it and sending it back via UPS or whoever.
