2001 Toronado or 1998 Squier Venus ?
Yesterday I arrived in Mexico again where I'll be for the next 2 weeks.
My brother here has a massive gear collection (he does hardly play himself) but he wants to reduce the amount a bit.
Most of them are in a quite shabby abandoned shape, as they just function as dust collecting wall hangers.
So he's willing to sell me some at a more than fair brotherly price... (as if I needed more guitars, but you know me).
So I'm torn between these two:
A) a very clean very orange 2001 MIM Fender Toronado
or
B) a nicely beat up 1998 MIJ Squier Venus
I love the look and feel of both of em. Sounds too. Now I'm so attracted to the Toro cuz of the weirdness and color, but I prefer that the Venus has H/S pickup configuration.
I know it's up to me and all... but what would you do?
Rock on!
Pat.

i'd go toronado. but knowing you, you'll come back with both and something like a 68 jaguar

Performer, by a mile, for the shape, the quality, the splittable pickups - such underrated guitars.
Then the Orange toronado because that colour is "the" Toronado colour IMO.
Then the Venus because Vista series guitars are almost good enough to make up for the fact that CL had anything to do with them.

I would absolutely love to have that Performer. Cool colour, cool pickups and I had that vibrato, the System 1 (designed by Kahler if I'm not misreminded) on my first Fender, a Contemporary Stratocaster. It's a surprisingly nice vibrato that I feel kind of does the half-way thing between a modern Strat vibrato and a Floyd. Great for making noise too. And all of this is leaving out the excellent quality of that era of MIJ Fenders.
I think it's by far cooler and rarer than any of the other two.

He's got a badass collection for someone who hardly plays...
There's a sunburst Venus on a certain board for people with frets for £450 right now.
I voted Venus but actually, unless it were green I'd go for the Chili-Pepper Toronado. Sweet guitar.
The Performer, though... If you don't want it and he don't want it...

I agree, if the performer is in the running go for that in a heartbeat. Otherwise it's the toronado simply to avoid the professional widow connection.

My aesthetical preference lies clearly with the Toronado. Wanted to have one badly when they came out (not only) due to RHCP...
You could always put single coils in HB size in it if you don‘t like HBs...
But man, that Showman&cab...
That Mustang also looks killer! Love that colour... Sonic Blue?
