'66 Fender Mustang
The owner of this bought it in 1993.
It's been played consistently in that time, in Melbourne and around the world.
It's been modded a bit in that time.
Unfortunately I'm not allowed to restore it back to how it was originally.
It has sentimental value to the owner.
First thing I noticed was it has to be a refin.
There is blue paint under the cream finish.
When I popped the hood, it was pretty evident.
They had painted over the shielding.
Also, there's a hacky rout where there had apparently been a Burns pickup in there at one point.
I think the pickups in it now are Seymour Duncan Jaguar pickups?
The whole thing has been rewired. CTS pots and all.
20+ years of finger grot.
Logo is mostly in tact.
Chunky Grover tuners have been installed.
If this guitar were mine, I would be sourcing some original F stamped tuners.
Fortunately it is not such an intrusive mod.
Only one extra hole has been drilled.
Completely reversible if it were ever to be restored.
The nut has also been replaced.
This would have been a great restoration project.
All I really did to it was clean it and set it up.

Re: 66' Fender Mustang
that guitar is a beautiful color.
The tuners do suck. Apart from the extra screw holes, the peghead holes are much bigger than they should be.
I have an incomplete '66 that i considered buying modern gears for. In the end, i bought a set of old ones, to avoid drilling...

(Christopher, also)
I've been to one World's Fair, a picnic, and a rodeo, and that's the stupidest thing i ever heard come out a pair of headphones.

The holes have been reemed out a bit. But I test fitted a set of Reissue F stamped tuners on it and they fitted quite well.
Would be fine with slightly larger conversion bushings.

+1 on the shim !
Did you notice how the lettering of it has 'bled' onto the heel of the neck ?
I could see that leading to a little head-scratching among future owners if the existing shim was replaced !

Great job with the cleaning. Too bad it couldn't be restored further. Those tuners in particular
