Tell me about this D+B neck?

There's a gallery here of a 66 Jag I went and took a look at on Saturday. I've got my own thoughts on it but I'd be interested to hear the thoughts of the OSG massive before I pre-empt anything. I know you guys like sniffing out the clues of a good vintage mystery!

well the string trees are a bit off, but I'm sure you see that how about fender logo coloring?

The trees are certainly 1 issue of 2 that jumped out at me. You may be right about the logo but that didn't shout at me immediately...

Ideally I'd want to see the end of the fingerboard as it transitions to the neck, plus frets and the state of the board, but with provisos mentioned it looks good to me. (I don't know whether the logo is correct as I don't know 66 well)
I like the varnish on the headstock etc, looks good to me. few refinishers could get that look.
I would hope that in person, the dark marks by the binding are where the varnish is worn away rather than under the varnish. I can't see from the photo, as there's no reflections there. Obviously dark marks under varnish = new varnish.

Sorry, that's my bad. I only got a few quick photos. I can tell you that the frets are very low and need redoing but there are traces of nibs so it hasn't been refretted yet.
I'll wait a few more hours until America has properly woken up as there's something clearly visible in those pics that really bothered me and I don't know if I'm right to be bothered by it or not.

String tree for sure.
The wear is correct (the darker spots near the binding. Identical my 66 fenders)
What strikes me is the aging of the finish on the neck and headstock. My 66 fender necks have completely differently aged I guess.

Excpet of the string tree, it looks legit to me. The crazy checking on the decal looks alright to me, similar to my mustang from the same year. However, the wear, tint and checking on the back of the neck makes me think it was oversprayed at some point.

Nice one fellas, that's the issue. The darker areas on the back of the neck right next to the binding have finish over them. That's not right, now, is it?

However, this is a well-known area of wear, it is possible to have overspray here without it being a complete refinish. I had it done on my old Gretsch 6120 when the binding lifted, I think the repairer simply oversprayed the edges. Which for me wouldn't be a deal-breaker, if everything else looks good.
