Slab fretboard on a 1966 Fender Jaguar :)

Post by CCOffset » Wed Jul 24, 2019 6:57 pm

I'm always attracted to the strange slab fretboards on some of the 24" scale Fenders from '65 to '66. The end of the fretboard showing the slab is under binding on this one but I assure you it's there :) https://youtu.be/dx7NFTRJ7ss

Show me your mid '60s slabs!

Very cool. Slabboards are indeed very very rare on bound jaguar necks, we've seen only a few here on OSG over the years.

My favorite jaguar neck is a Duo Sonic II Slabboard ;) 8)

Whoah! That's very cool. I've always been tempted to put one of those rare sunburst Coronado necks on a Jazzmaster but I can't bring myself to do it!

I got a 65 mustang slab board to replace the mangled neck on my 65 Jag. I totally feel in love with the neck, it's one of the best I ever played. Incredibly fat for a vintage neck. I liked it so much that recently I acquired a duo sonic 65 slab neck to start a Partsguar project.

Not SB but a Black Coronado I neck, it worked totally well. I sold the neck a while ago here on OSG

These are vintage modifications I can support! How do those necks fit in the neck pockets of different models? Is it the same or do they need shims to fit well?

Here's one from the auction. Its a NOV65 neck with the scrapped "musicmaster" logo. I will get reunited with the parts later this year and put it together. I've got an beat up vintage Jag body on the way. Can't wait!

Yeah this was definitely a good call, looks awesome.

Love the burst necks too and wish they existed more often. I read this thing a long time ago about matching neck Fenders in England back in the day being sort of common and there are very very very few pictures out there to help you visualize. Regardless it looks like the coolest thing ever

Yeah the sunburst necks are really tough to track down. I've only had one and almost had a second. There's a really cool note about them on page 78 of The Fender Archives from Freddie Tavares, “1-31 (67) – Sunburst necks “obsolete” & “kaput”. Sales sent back 100 Coronado Thinline guitars for rework. Bill Carson said that the necks should be replaced because they were ugly. They were sunburst necks and Carson said that we will no longer use sunburst necks on our guitars – out!”

Here's the one I had: http://truevintageguitar.com/inventory/ ... urst-neck/

The finish crew was like “Amen!” because I bet spraying them was a pain in the ass that they didn’t need.

I'm sure it was a pain but it's too bad!! I think they look awesome. I really want a spare neck to throw on my '65 Jazzmaster for a month or two just for fun.
