Help pricing a 1965 Jazzmaster body

Post by sab2208 » Fri Jul 26, 2019 6:31 pm

Hi all,

I need some help pricing an all original 1965 Fender Jazzmaster body. I'm not really sure how much to price this since I have only bought and sold completed guitars in the past. I also am curious how a buyer would be able to confirm that it is indeed from 1965, as there doesn't seem to be any date written on the body. Is that normal?

I've attached photos of the body. Everything is original. Thanks!

My guess is $900-$1500 depending on how long you're wanting to wait for it to sell.

It seems like the bodies with a big "S" between the pickups are from later in 65 or 66 - I've heard it is either "Sunburst" or "Special." ...a lot of these bodies have "Special" stamped on the back of the headstock. Also, the flat brass plates are another sign that it is a CBS guitar - did you peek under the bridge pickup rout to see if there was a date?

Yeah, I’d say $800-$1200 would be a reasonable range for you. I figure most people would budget about that much for a real body like this (and it looks awesome!), then roughly the same/a little less for a neck, then they probably aren’t as hung up on finding all vintage guts and stuff so let’s say, what, $400 or so for all the electronics and a pick guard?

I know that if I was trying to put together a partscaster with a vintage body and neck as the base my ceiling would probably be $2500 on the high end and this is all what I’d personally be aiming for myself.

My guess is also late ‘65/‘66 or later, due to its burst, but it does look legit otherwise. Does the cloth ground wiring look a little too new to others?

I third the $800-$1200 range.

No idea about price, but it looks really good and clean, and I find the burst sorta fascinating.

Look how far the red is where it's not faded, underneath the trem plate and the scratchplate. It's got quite a narrow band of red now, but originally it must have been super thick, more like the back. Interesting to see that it sorta...fades out over time
