NGD 66 Jaguar!

Post by gishuk » Mon Dec 09, 2019 12:06 pm

The result of a 3am Reverb browsing spree on my phone, I now own my first Jaguar ;D

I sold a Les Paul a few days ago and saw this guitar on my Reverb watch list from a while ago had been reduced in price. I put in a very cheeky offer that I didn't think would be accepted, but woke up in the morning and I had to pay for this! Never played a Jag before but I figured at the very least I can get my money back if I didn't like it, or more.

It sounds great and feels great too which I'm a little surprised by. I had a Mustang before and didn't really like it, felt too small, but the larger body on a 24" scale feels pretty good to me.

Its all original apart from a rewound neck pickup and the finish. It was Lake Placid Blue originally, the body is marked with that and it still has the blue in the cavitys, (even though I've seen photos of all this I will be taking it apart to check it after what happened with my recently Jazzmaster purchase!) and now its a metallic dark grey. The finish looks pretty good, looks better in person than these photos. I'll try get some daylight shots when the sun ever appears again.

That's hot.

Refin 60's Jags are right in the sweet spot for me, value-wise (I've got 3!). Fantastic vintage Fenders at less-astronomical prices than virtual all other options. This one looks great.

Enjoy it, and welcome to the world of Jags.

Very nice! Congrats! I've got a refin '63 Jag and refin '63 JM - both out of my price range if they were the original finish. The refins were professional and look great. Love the pickup and the necks are the best I've ever felt on any guitars. Congrats again! 8)

Nice Jag. I'm a vintage refin fan also. My refin Jag is a matching headstock Dakota Red 64. Looks like Charcoal Frost Metallic . My thin skin JM is that color. Enjoy.

Cheers guys.

After a couple of days playing this I'm impressed with it. Something about it makes me want to play chords, the neck pickup sounds especially great for that. It chokes out quite easily bending on higher frets though, I raised the action a bit but I think the truss rod needs a slight loosen really as theres almost no relief at all in the neck. The truss rod adjustment nut is already slightly protruding though so a little bit concerned that may not really be possible. But not the end of the world if it cant be done.

For the fact that this cost basically the same as a modern 60s reissue I don't have a problem having to do a bit of fiddling either if this one sticks around, which I feel like it might.
