Finally received in South Australia today having been nabbed from the used guitars section of the Little Rock, AR Guitar Center where it was misidentified (and mispriced!) as a used AV65.

Immediately strung it up with some Thomastik 12s and it sounds great. The mute foam has clearly been replaced however it's the first Jaguar mute I've ever used which actually works without pushing the strings sharp so I may just leave it be for now.

The only sour note (though I already knew this beforehand) is that the bridge pickup is more or less dead. It's not completely silent but it's almost totally inaudible. Plan on having it rewound, if that's the issue. Also, the trem arm was nice and stiff at first but following a few minutes of use it now just hangs loosely down. I might have to try tightening the collet.

Mispriced as a AV65?! Lucky man! Looks great and I bet once you fix the neck PU it'll sound even better! Congrats!

good catch.
I wouldn't have been confident enough in my Jaguar identification skills to try that. Probably, i wouldn't have even looked at the AV listing to begin with.
amazing gaff on their part.
that guitar is really clean. Maybe it threw them off..
(Christopher, also)
I've been to one World's Fair, a picnic, and a rodeo, and that's the stupidest thing i ever heard come out a pair of headphones.

Amazing snag. That is a gorgeous guitar for an insane price. I'm hopefully going to take delivery of a 1965 jag today. And I paid a fair bit more than $1,300 . . . .

It's kind of amazing that someone familiar with the concept of AVRI wouldn't be able to tell this was a real deal vintage jag.

What?? You paid for a new guitar and they sent you a 60 yr old one? What a ripoff! You should ask for a refund!

Now seriously, that's the snag of the year. I wonder if they ever realize what they did. Some guitar clerk is up for a talk with management ;D

Also, beautiful, beautiful Jag!!!

What a cool find! Beautiful guitar, I wonder how many more vintage guitars are on GC's website listed wrong like yours was...

Nothing like a good deal on the GC site. I think I saw this one and completely overlooked it as a sunburst av65 jag is probably the one jag I'm least interested in...looking at the photos now just the tort is enough to give it away. I'm surprised they didn't open it up and check for a neck date. So clean that it's deceiving. Anyway, congrats! That was a steal and hopefully you can get the bridge pickup situation sorted! Consider trying to reflow the solder joint on the pickup lead. I had a dead pickup in my av65 jazzmaster and all it took was disconnecting the older solder joint and then resoldering...good as new!

I think the condition definitely threw them off. It clearly had an "F" neck plate and tuners though, so it was quite obviously (at least to the trained eye) not an AV65 at first glance.

I had it shipped to a friend in the USA and was pretty nervous until I got him to take some clearer photos, including one of the neck date. Once I saw that, I knew I things were looking good.

I'll definitely try that before investigating having it rewound, would be wonderful if it's that simple!

This is insane and I’m mad at myself for not seeing it first, holy shit! Very bonkers situation that makes it infinitely cooler for the rest of its time on this earth, so enjoy it! It looks amazing :)

Wow, Congrats, that thing is sooo clean. Looks like it might be the best score of 2019!

I wonder if GC bought it into the store as a reissue too, then whoever initially sold it may have gotten a raw deal if they had no idea what they were selling.

I wondered this too. It seems crazy to me that GC would have bought a real vintage guitar and then sold it as AVRI. My guess is that the original seller didn't know what he had. . . . Or stole that guitar. Who knows.

I still can't believe anyone would see that guitar with the F plate and F tuners and not pause to do some more research.
