Old Gold

Post by Howlin_Wolf! » Thu Mar 19, 2020 7:57 am

Hi,

Does anyone know if the pickup screws on a gold hardware pre-CBS Jazzmaster would also be gold? I have a ‘59 - not all original but the pickguard screws are, as is the truss rod, string tree etc. I can’t see any gold on the pickup screws however. Pups are definitely vintage but wondering if this might indicate if they been changed out at some point. Guitar is a refin so solder disturbance isn’t going to solve it. I love the guitar like a child so just wondering, not looking to sell or anything like that.

Thanks,

Howlin Wolf

The pup screws would have been gold as well. And the input jack nut. And toggle switch hex nut.

The screws would have been gold, but pickup screws are often adjusted more frequently than almost any other. It's possible the gold wore away from use, if they look old, though you could probably find traces of it under a magnifying glass.

Pre-CBS and early-CBS (til about '67) gold hardware also can be seen on the truss rod screw at the base of the neck, above the neck stamp.
