Vintage Mustang 1967 discussion

Post by Kihtaristi » Fri Mar 20, 2020 1:34 am

I've been playing recently bunch of my '04 CIJ Mustang that I had setuped in nashville tuning and I've fallen in love with it. It has caused me itch to get other mustang to have in standard tuning. I looked local musicians forums in my country and there would be '67 Mustang for 1,700 €.

It should be all original, but has some dings here and there. I basically have never looked into vintage Mustangs and their prices so I don't know if the price is right for player condition. I also don't know how to confirm that it actually is 1967?

I also don't know if the instrument will go up in value if I will play it and if the possible refret at some point will drop the value. I'm thinking to get guitar to be played and not collected so would I be better of just looking for old MIJ/CIJ Mustangs and save 1k€? Are there vintage Mustangs that are way above MIJs and CIJs that justify the price that much higer?

What country are you in? Post some photos of the guitar :) The price really depends on condition. 1700e for a really clean '67 with all accessories is pretty normal price in Czech Republic right now.

For very depressing reasons, you may find vintage guitars more affordable in a couple of months.

Im in Finland. Here's the link. Can you open it?

It's actually first vintage Mustang I've seen on sale on that Finnish forum. There are vintage JMs occasionally priced up from 3-4k€ mark depending on condition and also some strats at astronomical prices that nobody is willing to pay..

I wouldn't describe that mustang really clean though. What you think about the condition and value?

Yep, that probably is sad but true with all used guitars. At this point Im not sure if I need to be looking for my spending because the company I work for will be affected by times like these, but just with the delay. We may have enough order backlog to pull through, but no one can't predict how long this will continue. I'm also waiting my Novo order that will take a big portion of what I can spend on gear this year. That Mustang is just tempting me so much and if the value is in right ballpark it probably is something that could be sold at about the same price.

The price for a 67 Mustang sounds not bad for me.
I´ve bought a 1965 for 1700€ in good condition, except for the finish.
I am very happy with it.
For me everything under 2000€ for a vintage Mustang is good.
There are still a lot around worldwide, I guess.

Get a vintage one, my suggestion! They are at last much better in handling, sound, great necks (!), simply everything.
(I have 4 vintage Mustangs and two japanes from around 2000´s)

have fun!!
It starts... when it begins.

Conservative predictions are at least six months. I would be wary of assuming current values will remain static for luxury purchases like vintage guitars.

Having said that, if you can spare the cash, you end up bonding with the instrument and being inspired by it none of that matters :)

100%. Putting the human cost of this aside (sorry), there's absolutely zero chance a guitar you pay top dollar for now will still be worth that in 6 months, a year, maybe ever.

I'd say the price is a bit on the high side for Finland. Not exactly overpriced, but not a great deal, either.

Maybe it's just me, but for €1,700, I'd expect to get a Compstang or maybe something a bit earlier than '67 - or, at the very least, loads of detailed photos instead of "yeah, it's all original."
