What's the chrome thing attached to the treble side of the bridge here? I dont think I've ever seen one.

"I just knew I wanted to make a sound that was the complete opposite of a Les Paul, and that’s pretty much a Jaguar." Rowland S. Howard.

The thing attached to the bridge? That's a mute. You can flip it up to provide a mute across all strings. I like it and use it - but not every one likes it and uses it. It was there originally on Jaguars right from their induction in the Fender catalog - and, in a different form, on early Jazz Bass iterations. It provides a different sound from palm muting. Sounds great with reverb applied.

A lot of vintage Jaguars that you see being sold will state that the original mute 'foam' has hardened/stiffened and was replaced. Seeing as the vintage Jaguar from the 60's is about 60 years old... the foam often hardens and or disintegrates - so it is often replaced.

For me, even a partscaster Jaguar doesn't look complete with out the mute. But then again, I love it and think it is a cool tool to utilize.
