MIssing an old Duosonic II: What did I do?!

Back in March of 2013*, I purchased a 1966 DuoSonic II from OSG user Panoramic I played a bunch of shows with it and even did some recordings. But in 2014 I sold it to a friend. I would later buy, and again sell, another 1966 Duosonic. I also had a 1972 Musicmaster (sold that, too).

I no longer have any shortscale offsets, having graduated to Jazzmasters. I checked in on my first Duo; my buddy still has it and it's his #1 for live and studio work. Maybe cuz it's the holidays and I'm feeling nostalgic. Is it just GAS?

Speaking from personal experience, I would say it's likely nostalgia for the most part. I've been in the same boat, and I ended up buying (and then selling again) the same model of guitar three times. The pattern was always the same--I bought it, realized I didn't really like it, sold it, then forgot why exactly I didn't like it and bought another one. Repeat two more times.

I think you would need to ask yourself why you sold it less than a year later. Or why you sold the second one you bought. It could be that you just didn't gel with those two particular Duo IIs, but my money is on it's just not the model for you.

All that said, if you do buy a third one, I would recommend taking the time to scrutinize a lot of examples (if possible), finding one that really speaks to you. If you do decide to break the buy-then-sell cycle, it's a guitar you're sure you want to keep because you love it, not just out of a sense of obligation. I've been there as well

If you're specifically after a short scale, have you thought about a Jaguar? It might be the Mustang-style body isn't for you; the Jag body being closer to a Jazzmaster may be just the ticket.

Had a 1996 orangeish-reddish Mustang that was just beautiful. I almost regret selling that one, but I hadn't played it in years.

I had a few Jaguars:
1993/4 MIJ Sunburst with a vintage Strat pickup in the bridge position. Arguably one of the best feeling, best playing guitars I ever had. And I sold it! (Needed money, sold at a nice profit)
1997 CIJ in CAR with a matching headstock. This one had a twin blade hotrail in the bridge. Never really bonded with it.
1993 MIJ CAR. Wiring was a mess, took some time to get it right.
