1965 Jazzmaster - looking to purchase

Hi all,

I have first option on this early ‘65 Jazz. Still working through the CITES documentation, but any thoughts are welcome… I’m a long way from point of purchase! All original save for trem arm, but I’d likely look at Staytrem for this. One original owner grandad who passed on to grandson who never played it. 7.6lbs.

Beautiful guitar. The vibe is fantastic, and the wear adds a lovely touch.

I also own a '65 SB, and it's from the late '65 period. It features witch hat knobs, pearl dots, but no neck binding. Playing it brings so much delight. it has a wonderful neck profile and warm pickups. And the smell when you open the case, haha it's just wonderful.

I hope it all works out for you.

Sounds like an interesting transition within a transition model you have man, quality. Always find it so interesting to hear about these wee anomalies from that period with Fender.

looks like a winner for sure. it would be good to see under the pick guard for the wiring and pickups, or an assurance that it's never been touched under there. i see absolutely no evidence that the pickups aren't original or any tampering, but it's important to confirm where possible.

7.6 seems light! probably just lucky. my '59 seems a lot heavier but i think mine might be ash.

best of luck!

Thanks for all your comments. Under the hood looks sound and original.

The chrome wear on the trem was something I hadn’t seen before. Californian guitar, but grandson has had it in Arizona unplayed for a reasonable time too.

£8500. Most others are being listed around £10k in UK so I think that’s realistic.

That does sound about right. The one I have an option on is £6500 in comparison.

Based on this and the pics, I'd jump at it if you have the cash.

Yeah, thanks. It's all go but I have to sort CITES documentation out for both side of the borders. Anyone got any experience here?
