Just want to add that having now finally seen (and held) a true ano pickguard.... the Scotland Guards are very realistic! The thickness, grain, and color are very, very good. Quite an impressive reproduction!

having seen and held my first geniune gold guard just a few days ago i totally agree.

HaHa... that's it!  ;D

Somehow I missed it before, I don't recall ever seeing it. I wonder if it was the same seller?

It came to me in a vintage brown case, not that RI case.

Thos little blemishes on the bottom edge are still the only ones.

And now it has all matching pickups and bridge, original frets and logo, etc...  :?

Looks very nice Doug  :-*

Did you manage to track down  (what I call) a gold guard era 59 bridge for it?

I have the bridge from my '58 on it. It has slightly different rivet heads holding the legs, and the three thread sizes on the saddles.

Edited to add: When I got the '58, the saddles were all rusty, so I mixed and matched from my stash of vintage saddles to get clean ones in all three thread sizes. Now that I think of it, did the early ones have all coarse saddles? Is that what you mean by "gold guard era" bridge?

I could certainly change it to all coarse saddles, those are the ones i have the most of....

All bridges on 59 gold guard JMs  I have had (around 10) were also slightly different in that the (2) screws in the legs (ie the hex headed ones, height adjusters) were rounded at the bottom, not pointed like the later ones.

No, the old ones were not all course - as I said above the difference I see is the screws in the legs of "gold guard era" bridges seem to have rounded bottoms .

Not pointed..............wish I had some pics but I can't seem to find any that I took  :(

Did you notice if your 58 bridge had this?

I always wondered about the bridge screws, but I never made the connection about gold gaurd era or not.

Here's a pic from ebay, supposedly 1963, with pointy screws:

Here's a not great pic, but the only one I have, of the bridge that came with a 1959 body.  Looks rounded.

No way of knowing that each bridge is definitely from a certain era, but it's something at least.

Yeah I always expect to see rounded bottom screws on 58s/59s......those pics Dinosaur are what I am referring to.

I have a feeling they changed to pointy late in 59

the bridge that came with my 1959 body has rounded screws. the body is marked 10/59 so i guess they changed to pointy somtime after that.

John, did anyone ever tell you that you're amazing?! I mean who else could dig up  a photo at a moments notice documenting something like this! Those are excellent photos as well. Do you mind divulging where they originally came from? I swear I've seen them somewhere before, though I can't figure out where.

Jonas - I *think* possibly I have even seen the rounded bottom screws on a Jan 1960 Jazzmaster, so maybe they spilled over into very early 1960.
Late 59 / very early 1960 seems to make sense for the changover.

I can't believe I didn't take pics of the different bridges in the past.

Yes thats the ones John - fancy you having the pics  ;)

Whilst looking I found this pic on my HD - since we are talking about 59s I thought I'd post it anyway  ....

I don't remember specifically whats on that bridge in regard to the "feet", but I have both kinds in my stash. Thanks for the heads up. If it doesn't have it now.... it will soon.

I think I read somewhere that the earlier bridges usually have the same thread size all the way across...   ???

hehehe...thanks Justin!

they are from a Japanese website that compared four sunburst Jazzmasters...a '59....two '61s and a '62

I posted the link to the actual site somewhere on here too, but can't find it at the moment...I have saved the complete websites though, so I got the images on my hardrive...the Japaneses site has amazing closeups of every aspect of the guitars :)
