Hi All,
I looked in the archives for this but didn't see it...
Is there a consensus as to when certain custom colors were available for JM's...aka, in 1958 what were the available colors? I know there were no matching headstocks at that time, but what about the body finishes?

for Jim Shine's site:
Custom Colored guitars were produced during this period of time. Fiesta Red, Blonde, metallic Gold, San Marino blue, and other 1950's colors were used. Blonde guitars featured ash bodies. Rarely a guitar will even feature gold hardware. All custom color guitars from this period are fairly rare compared to other periods of time in the models life.

Hey Zhivago,
Thanks...that info was taken from Jim Shine's site? If it's not too much trouble can you provide a link for that one?
Thanks!

About 2/3 of the way down provide.net's Fender Custom Colors page there's a table:
http://www.provide.net/~cfh/fenderc.html
It tells you when Fender were offering certain colours, and when those colours were available as car paint (and so could have been done as a special request).

Re: Timeline for Custom Colors?
This totally makes sense, now...I didn't realize earlier that the Fender custom colors were almost entirely based on car colors available at that time!
What a great idea it was to put car colors on guitars...makes perfect sense.
