New Bronco Day!
Honestly, I can't believe it's already here, but everytime I check it still lays on my bed. It took 4 days (weekend included) to get here from the Czech Republic. Is that a record?
Anyway, this is such a cool guitar! After giving it a fresh set of Addario .11's it almost plays itself. Real nice neck (little thicker than my JM) and the shorter scale is no problem at all either. I remember when I tried a Jaguar about 1,5 years ago I was quite disliking it, I thought because of the shorter scale. Not the situation, appareantly.
It sounds very nice too. Not thin at all, like some bridge pickups, but instant- Arctic Monkeys sounds. Twangy and such, but not like a Tele.
Oh, and Bronco owners, I'm talking to you: Go buy a Fulltone '69. Now. It sounds HUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE!
Last but not least; it's very light and that's good for my back if need to haul that Fender 75 around for the amount of months I need to save up for a Deluxe Reverb. So that's nice.
It did happen, pics:
The only thing this guitar needs are a set of these:
Today's such a good day!

Re: New Bronco Day!
congrats and welcome to the club! i absolutely ADORE my '67 bronco. that one and the '64 jazzmaster are my main gigging axes. sometimes the jazzmaster even is the BACKUP guitar. for a 1-pup guitar it's a MONSTER. now try to get some trem arm to fit in there (mine's a modded strat arm) and SURF ON!!!
she's a beauty in black.

Re: New Bronco Day!
Thanks, both. Michael bought me an arm for the trem on eBay, I hope that one gets here that fast too.
At first I was thinking of gradually restoring this one to original-ish state during college and having Curtis Novak doing a Dakota Red refin at the end if he still does those, but I'm not so sure about that now I've seen it in person.
Pat, will you teach me the secret Bronco-handshake?

Re: New Bronco Day!
Awesome Bronco. Best bang for buck vintage guitars out there at the mo in my opinion. Can still be had at relatively reasonable price...Hopefully it'll stay that way long enough for me to save a pick one up!

This is a '78, but it has been refinished and has quite a few unoriginal parts. I don't know exactly which parts, but it is mentioned in the thread in the FS-section.Libtoem wrote:Awesome Bronco you have there,I have a 68 and I love it.Mine sounds pretty kick ass as well since I threw in a jb jr and a 500k pot.

Re: New Bronco Day!
Yea mine is pretty unoriginal.
Mine has a Jagstang neck, original neck needs new fretwork
Paint stripped.
JB Jr pickup
500k pot
I kind of figured yours was a later model just from looking at the decal.
But your guitar looks awesome,I love the black finish.

Re: New Bronco Day!
Thanks, I really like the color too. It has been refinished very well, IMO. The finish is very shiny and smooth and all...
The only battle scar I could discover is on the tip of the lower horn and that's a very tiny one. And the headstock has a few minor dings.
Damn I like this guitar.

Yeah right, as if finding just one of the two isn't hard enough.j-op wrote: Oh, and Bronco owners, I'm talking to you: Go buy a Fulltone '69. Now. It sounds HUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE!
Welcome to the club, btw.
As for refinishing, I think you should stick with black since that would period correct. The final run Broncos - those built between '76 and '78 - came in black and white only (from what I've gathered), with a black guard and black strat knobs. The logo also changed for those years.
Here's my stock '78 for comparison:
I really dig the 1st generation knobs on yours though.

Re: New Bronco Day!
^ That is sexy! Maybe, if I'm going to have more money than necessary, I'll get a black guard too in the future.
Can I see a pic of your headstock, btw? I had never seen a Bronco-decal like the one on mine before.

Re: New Bronco Day!
The decal on mine is identical to yours. It was added to all Broncos from '76 and onwards.
