is this the original finish on '69 jag?

Post by Pacafeliz » Thu Oct 01, 2009 1:37 pm

hey guys...

a guy here has a beat up '69 jag and sez it's all original.
the bridge pickup switch and thin switch's heads have broken off and the trem colette is missing.
now... before i even THINK on haggling and seing what testicle i should sell... do you think this is the original finish?

he sez there's a kinda grey color under the paint chips. i'll ask for better pics. but didn't these use the gold undercoat? but then again, the white pickguard would make sense on a custom color.
it has a NON-matching headstock, btw.

i'll keep you updated, but... what do you think from the pic?
thnx!

:D yes i just realized there's no w-b-w on the pickguard! either it's homemade or painted white. but under the bridge there's a piece missing too. hmm...

i'll keep you updated!

Just curious, but how much did you sell it for? And when?

well i got some more info and some more crappy pics (later)...

it seems to be an all-original '69 or '70 jag. the color is NOT original, apparently it was painted red WITH the original pickguard on!!! :squint: and that was later on painted white, too. but it has the original alu shield taped under it and all.
so under the pickguard you can see this used to be (is, cuz it seems it wasn't stripped) a 3-tone sunburst with -i guess- tort guard. strangely though, it has a small rubber-stamped "179" on the body wood under the pickguard.

anyways... me likey. if i find a way to strip it, i'd be king of the world.

i'm working on some trading deal (remember, DOWNsizing!!!) and let you know how it goes.
OF COURSE, if someone here bought my old mustangs... it'd be quicker...

heh
stay tuned!

ok here they are.
he put on the webcam while he was disassembling the guitar, and it's definitely not a serviceman.

just a few random shots:

that neck looks nicely worn eh?!

now... get ready for über-crap shots!!!

the refin looks ancient, so i guess the sunburst might still be in good shape under it.

he says the guitar was hanging above the bar in a local bar, and he rescued it before the place was torn down. dang! lucky SOB

well i hope i can eventually get my hands on it... heh heh
