Toledo (Univox UC-2)
Hi folks,
I'm new here, and I just won an auction for a Toledo guitar, which is the same as the Univox UC-2 model...
that's my 2nd guitar (the first one being a Jackson Stealth) and the first 'offset' guitar of mine...
does anyone use(d) to play anything like that here?
I bought without trying it first: I like the style a lot, and it's just impossible to try out one here where I live (Italy)...
in fact, I think it's impossibile to try one out for almost anyone anywhere... moreover, there are practically no info about it in internet...
it seems that Toledo was just an importer for Canada and that the guitar has been crafted in Japan, in the mid '60ies, by Matsumoku/Aria, anyway it is mostly known in its Univox UC-2 incarnation...
it's not a Fender Jazzmaster/Jaguar/Mustang, but I do really hope it could be good enough for me...
a lot of the bands I like use(d) to play Jazzmaster or Jaguar, mostly because they were selling very cheap (used) during the 70ies/80ies when they got them... so I followed the "cheap offest and uncommon guitar" route too
...very rare and 'offset' for sure!

Hi. Welcome to the forum. I have no clue how the UC 2 plays, but I really like the way it looks. Looking forward to seeing many pics of it
We got people playing stringed instruments! It's the end of days.

That guitar certainly looks very cool and quite unusual. I imagine you will turn a few heads with it…

Re: Toledo (Univox UC-2)
At one time I had the Univox version in that exact configuration and color. It had a very glassy/Stratty sound to my ears, but with its own unique sounds as well. As you said, it's not a Fender offset, but it has its own unique vibe. I wish I still had mine - I don't think you'll be disappointed!

Re: Toledo (Univox UC-2)
yeah, it's something I thought to, I mean the fact that it's gonna be more similar looking than sounding, to a Jazz/Jag, mainly because it only has a pickup selector switch and a tone control, it's not as complicated as the Fenders...Craig Gates wrote:At one time I had the Univox version in that exact configuration and color. anyway, please tell me more about it! I'm very curious and I can't wait to have her there...
guess I really grew tired of my Jackson Stealth
p.s.
I need to get a vibrato arm, since the original one got lost... do you know what kind of arm does it fit?

yep! that's it! Thanks, man. I love these guitars. Yours is also very nice. I have just checked ebay and there is one like yours but with three pickups, and univox logo.

Re: Toledo (Univox UC-2)
the Aria is good looking too, it's just more conventional looking... so I like the UC-2 a lot more... I like that guitar so much that I think it looks even better than the Jazz/Jaguar!iñigo montoya wrote:yep! that's it! Thanks, man. I love these guitars. Yours is also very nice. Re: Toledo (Univox UC-2)
I've seen those over here branded as Aria Diamonds. Never played one but the last one I saw was in a seedy pawn shop & it had "Rhythm Rick" painted on the pickguard. I find it amusing that it's called a Toledo--of course there's the city in Spain, but here in my part of the world we have Toledo, Ohio, which is like Detroit's little brother. There's a White Stripes song that I forget the title of where Jack is singing "She's sending me to Toledo" which is a joke around these parts because it's not exactly a place people vacation. Some call it "Toileto". Once upon a time I played in a band down there. It's a cool guitar & I hope it works out for you--life's too short for everyone to play cheap Strats.anubi wrote:

And if I'm not in a band, don't mean I'm square...and if I am, well then I don't care..

Oh, and to the OP: Sick guitar. Those trems are really good.
