Nah, it's over...
And my buddy totally stepped up to the plate when it came to ethics...

If you believe that "they really shouldn't have to pay him anything at all", then think how you'd feel getting your '59 JM back, for the $$ that was paid for it all those years ago...
I'd be stunned and thrilled with the state of the human condition, especially in this day and age... ;)

Hey, its a great outcome no matter what. Reward, reimbursement, or not. Everyone's happy and you contributed to a now infamous recovery of an awesome SY jazzy!

It just doesn't get cooler than that. 8)

100 percent true. But unless some makes the effort to contact them they get nothing back.

With stuff like this some kind of bounty always helps with recovery. And if the word really gets out that the SY members will through something at the finders then it may help with other guitars. Not talking 10 g's here but a little good will goes a long way...

Just sayin'.

It was a good thing all the way around though. Nothing but good karma can come from that.

I do think that your buddy did a good deed by returning the guitar. I don't think he's entitled to more than they gave him. In legal terms, he was made whole, he was given what he paid for it. No, he didn't get a reward or what the current fair market value of that guitar is, but then he didn't acutally pay what fair market value would have been when he acquired it if all he paid was $450. He also got the use of an awesome guitar for a dozen years.

I might be inclined to pay a reward myself, but it shouldn't be expected. As stated earlier, it could set a precedence for profiteering. Not just for SY gear, but other bands as well. For example, the Raveonettes have had gear stolen, as have countless others. Should they be expected to pay a premium just because SY could afford to?

I'm glad Lee got his guitar back and that your friend made it happen. Hopefully some good karma will come his way.

My friend--being the class act he is--did not expect one, or verbalize anything of the kind....
Ever...

Me--being apparently the classless act--kinda did... ;)

It's no biggie...
Everything worked out fine....

You know who deserves a reward? jbuckner. He is really the one who put all the pieces together. He deserves some recognition for putting things together.

Wow, I find it incredible that OSG was able to trace down two of Sonic Youth's stolen guitars. I wonder if the forum will be able to trace down some of Dinosaur Jr's stolen gear.

i know they're out there. (pun intended) ::)

does he have pics with serial numbers etc. somewhere, too?
i mean, without the SY gear guide no one would have ever found the SY guitars!

Thought I'd add some pictures I found on the web to the stolen Dinosaur guitars.

:bored:

ok let's just take that info, keep our eyes wide open and ... well, try to not keep going off-topic.

but i'm kinda happy that this story (another SY guitar found) is kinda over - i really expected a newb flood.
not that i have anything against newbs, but i prefer the people that get in here outta interest instead of just a pitchfork link.

anyways...

let's see if lee at least takes a pic of him and the guitar(s), or so.

oh yeah and... FREE MASTERYS FOR TEH OSG!!! :D ;)
