I like the way they're boasting about the "thick-skin finish". Is it a late 70s catalog?

Custom colours didn't necessarily have matching headstocks. Sunbursts never did, of course .. something for which you'll be grateful if you've ever seen a sunburst refinish with a sunburst headstock .. *shudder* .. the horror ..

hah, I have always wanted to see a antigua matching headstock. especialliy on a 70's offset with the black blocks and binding.

maybe I just have awful taste though.

i'd just like to add a photo of my black with gold hardware jaguar. i have replaced the m.o.p. pickguard with a vintage tort one. i know it's not in the same league as many of the jags pictured here, but as it is such an unusual colour/hardware/pickguard combo, i thought i would post it.

i am usually not a fan of gold hardware, but this combo on a jag i think looks rather dashing!
... even though i say so myself.  :-[

It IS rather dashing.... quote exquisite, in fact.

I'm of the same mindset, I don't generally like gold hardware. But it looks GREAT on that. Must be the black/tortoise that does it.

Nice angle and lighting too!

Lovely...    :?

I agree, I don't usually like gold hardware, but that looks fantastic.  I think the vintage tort really works better with the gold.

Ohhh, that is a good look!

Imagine it with blocks and binding!

offsetwaistbody, is it MIJ?

If so, what is the serial number?  Not the whole thing, but does it start with GC?

yep, it's one of those "guitar center exclusives" that fender japan did about the same time as the "blonde" with gold hardware ones, but these black and gold ones were only available from "guitar center" stores in the U.S.
i don't know how many they did but it can't be many, coz you just don't see or hear of them and i think the highest serial number (yes, it starts with GC) i have seen indicated 78th off the production line.

It's my understanding that gold hardware doesn't really last on guitars. Is this true? Does the hardware on your MIJ still look decent?

gold hardware generally tends to wear quite easily, especially if you're playing a lot of gigs and stuff.

It would last a lot longer if you were just playing it in your house.

Then that's what that dude had and was selling as a 70s Jaguar.

He's probably not crooked.... just stupid.

Nice bit of detective work.  I dont remember those GC guitars at all, but it's great to always learn something here.

Sure. CBS buy-out was in January '65.
