Thanks so much. I appreciate the compliment. The band is on hiatus right now. My two band mates wanted to focus on their main project. Right now I'm trying to find a drummer first and foremost, then a bassist. I'm not sure if I am going to get a second guitarist again or stay three piece.

I am glad to see that someone here got this.

Very interesting, hopefully it will turn out that this is what everyone is thinking it is. Great demos too.

At this point I have no doubt. There are too many pieces of evidence in favor of it being what it is. Why would anyone create a fake Fender with all these attributes, with as much care and quality, even going to the lengths to do the staggered routs for the pickups and not create something more substantially and financially worthwhile, like a Strat or Tele. Either of those would have fetched more money.

This would have been a waste of time for anyone other than a Fender employee.

I don't want to jump the gun or jinx myself... but I've made some headway on this and am waiting for results. I'm actually giddy with excitement right now. I'll post more when I get a reply.

Can't wait to hear. This has turned into a cool thread if I do say so myself.

Just curious, did you know of the RR connection before I mentioned it? ;D

I didn't put two and two together, but as soon as you said it, I knew it to be true. It was absolutely obvious, actually. That's why I pulled the trigger.

OK, I'm going to respect this person's wishes and keep the name private, but someone from the very early Fender days has said that they believe this is Rossmeisl's work and cited one or two oddities. If this particular person agrees with my assessments, I'm dead certain I can find someone who'll recognize it either directly or at least its pedigree. I really wish I could share who it was, but I don't want to make anyone angry - so take it for what it's worth, I guess.

I'll have more info soon. This is shaping up so nicely.

Success!!!

I had the great pleasure to speak with Phil Kubicki who was the assistant to Roger Rossmeisl from '64 until Roger left in '72. Phil is a very nice guy, we talked about the old days at Fender and he told me all sorts of stories about their department. He said how Leo hated letting any of the prototypes leave the factory. He said that after a prototype was made, if it wasn't going into production, and take it to a building to be boxed and stored. He said that the German carve, the shape and the gold pick guard were dead giveaways of Roger's work and that he was surprised this instrument got out of the Fender plan at all. When I mentioned Buddy Kendrick's name, he said, "Oh boy, how did Buddy get that thing out of there?"

Phil also talked about some other interesting prototypes. There's a book by George Fullerton which shows a photo of Roger and Wes Montgomery. On the bench there's a guitar called a "Modern Rocker" which was also quite representative of Roger's work.

Amazing. Really.
