Can anyone identify the knobs on this? Do they appear to be like any other Fender product, '50s-'70s? They appear to be too small for the amp knobs of from around 1960, but perhaps there was some other product which had it.

I found out that the person who gave it to the seller was a guy named Buddy Kendrick. From quick searches, he was a sales rep or something at Fender. Anyone know if this guy is still around?

they look like these daka-ware knobs which were probably used on all kinds of things back in the day:

Confirmed. That's what they are. Just pulled one off. Thanks.

Daka-Ware made the chicken-head knobs on earlier Fender amps and made the telecaster round toggle switch knobs. I imagine they probably also did other things for Fender products. These were probably sitting around and got used.

Wow that Rickenbacker 5002 Mandolin says quite a bit. It would be killer if you could track down Buddy Kendrick though, if he's still around. No clue how one would go about that though. Maybe someone one the Fender forum or something. It does seem though that the evidence is stacking up in favor of it being a Fender amalgamation.

The more I look at that pickguard the more I like it.

I just spoke to an "old timer" at Fender. He thinks it's legit and is passing it around to some others who've been with the company since the 70s, including John Page.

Cross your fingers!

Wrote a lengthy process report on http://dumb.org/instruments-and-amplifiers/banjoline/ finally. I am doing research on Fender Banjo truss rods today to see if I can match that nut with anything. I also want to see if I can find a similar neck plate on anything.

I have to say, seeing that write-up I find it very convincing. I hope this works out in your favour.

Thanks, Orang.

I just finished up a recording a quick video. Forgive my playing, I'm still getting used to this thing.

Nice demo and great choice on songs! You got to get some vibrato action going though 8) How's the balance on it, either while sitting down or with a strap.

Also bookmarked your link, super interesting stuff. I'll be curious if you find another Fender that uses that neck plate, it's an odd one.

Yeah. You know, if I could get a look at the original '62 Fender Banjoline's neck plate, I bet it would be similar. These necks are super thin, about 1.75 inches wide, like a banjo or tenor guitar would be. A standard Fender neck plate would not work for this.

There are no strap pins, so you -have- to sit down to play. That or have a mean pinch with your strumming elbow. I found that the way I'm playing in that video is most comfortable for me. The balance is nice, though. It's a really light instrument, can't weigh more than 4 pounds, if that, so it's not awkward at all.

Thanks for the compliment. I was trying to think of slide stuff to play on it. The middle tune is one of my own called "Red River." I originally wrote the intro riff on a banjo and added lapsteel, guitar, etc. This recording is of my old band mate and I doing all the parts. I'm on guitars, vox, bass, and lap steel. He's on drums and backing vocals.
