*NBD INCOMING!*How Much Should I Pay For This '66 Jazz Bass?
Hi guys, here's a '66 Jazz Bass I'm considering.
I like the look of it. I'm thinking about expanding my "collection" of D&B offsets.
I'm normally not a fan of the mid '60s "Bullseye" bursts, but I like how this one has faded.
There's a strange "ghosting" on the neck stamp, though? Other that that it all looks pretty good, it's certainly not in mint condition but I would describe it as good, excellent from a distance
Fretboard looks like it could do with some TLC and the body looks a bit dirty in some pics, and clearly has quite a few dings in it. Although the ad says the frets have "lots of life left" it really doesn't look like it to me. It does seem original and legit though, but I don't really know Jazz Basses. The cutaway looks quite "distinctive" (lumpy) on the picture of the neckplate - is this common on models of this vintage?
At $7495 the price seems high, though the seller is considering offers. How much should I aim to pay if I choose to go ahead with this?
Thanks!

Re: How Much Should I Pay For This '66 Jazz Bass?
Thinking if I go ahead I'll start the negotiation at $5250 and aim to pay less than $5800.
The annoying thing is I'll have to pay 20% on top in VAT / import duty. Which sucks, but at least it put the domestic value of my previous imports up 20% overnight
Anyone else think the frets look a bit low?

Dots & Binding super-rare on a JB. Great faded "target-burst".
This one is SO 1966. Beautiful.
7 code is a Jazz Bass
5 code is a PBass.
You can see the back print as "5 JUL 66 C"
It was first stamped as a C width neck for a PBass.
Has to have been a mistake ay the factory. Makes it that much cooler!

Love the D&B! It's quite similar to my one! I've never like those style tuners, though!

Thanks a lot for the info - I thought you were about to tell me it's a partscaster!IPLAYLOUD wrote:Dots & Binding super-rare on a JB. Great faded "target-burst".

Re: How Much Should I Pay For This '66 Jazz Bass?
Update: I couldn't resist and bought the bass!
I guess I'll wait and see how the frets look when it arrives - my luthier said if it needs a refret he'll be able to keep the original binding, which can be a problem on some models.
I'm pretty excited about it! I'll post pictures when it arrives. I guess I fell in love with the faded burst / tort / D&B combo.
Wish me luck!

Happy NBD That's a beauty you bought there!
Of course it's alive - you cannot make music with dead Muppaphones.

In 12 manageable monthly payments! I get to keep both my 'funk' and my 'game' though, so still winningAltar wrote:Did you sell him your soul?
Thanks DerRoy, I can't wait. I'd say I'll take a bunch of pictures when I get it, but the seller pretty much had the glamour shots covered I think!
