Re: yamaha sg-2 trem arm?
Lucky you! Fingers crossed it works out.
Somebody else will probably know better, but I think a Jazzmaster/Jag trem arm will fit. Apparently you can drop it in and then there's a locking nut that tightens around it. I'm sure I've seen some SG-2 and 3s sold with JM/Jag arms.
I'm going to Japan soon and am hoping I might find an SG-2 or 3 while I'm there

Re: yamaha sg-2 trem arm?
nah forget about try a fender one. At least I had no luck.
I have a few beautiful yammies and 2 are missing an arm.
I had luck buying a repro from japan through jauce.com.
And it fit the yamaha sg-2 one I had. But it didn't fit on my sg-12. It's very importent to check to collet on your trem and check if it' still intact.
I'll try to find a link for you
(prepare to spend $40-50 though, but it's worth it)

Re: yamaha sg-2 trem arm?
My SG-3 was missing the arm, too. Luckily, I had a spare CIJ arm which turned out to be a great fit. It still needed a slight bend at the collet end to keep it from flopping around. I can't vouch for how well the Yamaha system works at locking the bar in place because the vibrato mechanism was pretty messed up on my Yamaha. I put a lot of time into getting it to work decently, but there was no problem getting the Jag arm to fit in the hole. I also ended up cutting down the overall length of the CIJ bar, which is noticeably longer than the original. Good luck!

46346,
This image is of a Soviet Ural 650A tremolo unit which is a dead ringer for the Yamaha. The collet thread & pitch is 8M x 1.0 - metric fine. I was able to purchase the entire trem from an eBay seller in Eastern Europe before they got expensive and difficult to find. They are still out there though.
Will be interesting to see your solution.
Good luck

There's a guy in Japan who makes excellent replacement arms. PM Sleepkid and he should be able to help you out.

Re: yamaha sg-2 trem arm?
Hello everyone!
I'm looking for a tremolo arm for a Yamaha SA-50. I think it's pretty much the same as that Soviet Ural. How can I find that on ebay?
Can a Fender Jag/Jazzmaster fit?

Out of curiosity would it be possible to swap out the SG2/3 collet and arm for a JM/Jag type to get a functional trem?

Re: yamaha sg-2 trem arm?
People have done this and I've read that they're supposed to fit right in, but I think it depends on the actual guitar. On my SG-2 the trem arm isn't designed to come out unless the trem is completely disassembled. When I first tried it in the shop I wondered why it wouldn't come out but it's just not supposed to. I think (and I may be wrong, because there's not a great deal of Yammy SG info out there) that some of the trem arms are removable.Gavanti wrote:Out of curiosity would it be possible to swap out the SG2/3 collet and arm for a JM/Jag type to get a functional trem?
