^ Thanks, man! I'd resigned myself to going home without one so I'm still seriously stoked one threw itself almost in my path The only thing is I'm in Australia, or will be tomorrow, but it's the offset love that really counts, right?

The US has enough offsets, bring them home to the sunburned country. I'm in Tokyo the week after next, will do my part if I can.

These look really cool but seem a little overpriced to me. How much did they cost new?
Also, the guy from the band Weed plays one and makes it sound great.

Yeah - these Sg-2 / Sg-3 look sooo cool !
Yours is a very nice one ! I have 2 of these - one sb like yours and one red one, I was soo lucky to get it at a decent prize and picked it up at Vienna. My red one I call "Corvette", since it reminds me of an old Corvette
Sound is great with blackface fenders ! I like the neck PUP alone and middle position with roll-pot shifted towards bridge.

New, they were priced in Yen; in the sixties. So that should require some math. But as long as vintage jazzmasters are being sold for 5K these could get sold for 1K or a different amount without being 'overpriced. I mean... same year, same quality. And would you say that USA builds (or used to build) there guitars better than Japan? I don't feel any build difference in my '67 sg-12, sg-2a, sg-2, sa-50 or my '67 jaguar or '68 coronado and mustang. They all are solid guitars. Although they also had the sg-3c (which I own too). That one has a bit more crappier build but.. that was there budget model.sidewalk wrote:These look really cool but seem a little overpriced to me. How much did they cost new?

In 1967 the US Treasury reported 1 USD = 360 JPY.
SG-2: 42000JPY/116USD, about 822 USD in 2014
SG-3: 48000JPY/133USD, about 942 USD in 2014
I couldn't find an exact price for 1967, but Strats apparently listed somewhere between $290 and $350 during the late 1960s, so over twice as much as the SGs. However, it would be interesting to look at these numbers as compared to earnings also. I suspect they might be much closer by that measurement.
Can you tell I'm procrastinating?
