Re: I just bought this Jag? (1964 Jaguar)
This 1960 Jazzbass just popped up on my Tumblr. It's described as having a "deep sunburst" that reminded me of your Jag. Not 100% sure its a factory original but it might be a thing that happened in the '60's.

yes, an AVRI arm will work fine. However the teeth (tabs) of the collet might be broken off. once you've removed the tailpiece, you could put the arm in, and try to tighten the tabs (f they'Re there) around it. some sort of clamp would be good. or needle nose pliers to GENTLY and UNIFORMLY press the tabs inwards onto the arm's shaft?schoolie wrote: By the way, do AVRI trem arms work in vintage trems? As I said, my AVRI tremolo bar just fell right in and didn't catch on the collett at all. I guess we'll need to open it up. More pictures and measurements when I disassemble it. Hopefully, it wasn't routed for brutal EMG toanz
good luck
(you can buy a new AVRI collet to install on a vintage tailpiece if necessary)

Re: I just bought this Jag? (1964 Jaguar)
Thanks! I ordered a new AVRI trem arm, and this one has a collar at the tip. I sanded the collar a bit and it seems to work well. The frets are uneven, and I'm not sure there is enough left for a level and crown. I had a family emergency, so I haven't had a chance to disassemble it yet. Typing this from the Mikado Motel, in Valley Village

Re: I just bought this Jag? (1964 Jaguar)
Sorry to resurrect this thread, but I am looking to sell this guitar. The only change was that I had the guitar refretted with vintage gauge frets, and I replaced the pickup foam, and bought a trem arm. I was thinking of selling for $2000 plus shipping. Does that sound fair. I will put my ad in the for sale section, but justwanted your opinion on a fair price. Thanks

The arm from my ‘66 Jag won’t fit in any of my AV tremolo-equipped guitars and none of the arms from those will fit in the ‘66 what am I not getting here?! I’d love to use the old arm on my jazzmasters and vice/verse on the jag. The new arms are all a tiny bit bigger and the coolers slightly more oval than the 66s perfectly round (looking) shape.mcjt wrote: ↑Mon May 26, 2014 6:56 amyes, an AVRI arm will work fine. The older arms are one thing I actually care about because they’re longer and skinner and look cooler than the new ones where none of them have bends and just an ALMOST sort of VAGUE curve between the bend and arm tip. Sucks.

Oh shit I didn’t even see this was old or what you bumped it sorry haha
As a person trying to sell a 66 Jag here please go away
As a normal reasonable non-MAGA Chad I will point out that it will probably sell almost instantly if you post it here at that price and make one of our brethren very very happy in the process

Way low. You have to establish if the finish is original first. It looks like it is, to me... there were quite a few wide black sunbursts around late 62 early 63. If it is, then it's worth around $3 1/2 K. Or similar. I'll check. Anyway, could you post photos of the neck pocket, under the guard and around the brass shields? It should be easy enough to decide for sure.schoolie wrote: ↑Sat Aug 11, 2018 12:14 pmSorry to resurrect this thread, but I am looking to sell this guitar. I'd say that was a definite refin - I know the wide black sunbursts you are meaning FrankRay, but that's not one of them...………...the burst is all wrong, and so is the colouring, to be a Fender finish.

Re: I just bought this Jag? (1964 Jaguar)
I am pretty sure it is a very old, lacquer refin. Also, no mute, and no original tremolo arm. So I was wondering what is a reasonable price for a refin with all original parts, missing a few, and with a stellar vintage-gauge refret job. I believe the neck is stamped December 1963...Appreciate your help!

Re: I just bought this Jag? (1964 Jaguar)
It's not a Fender finish and it's done quite poorly.
This is my '62
It's not the widest black but it shows the transition from black to red to yellow.
If you were to ask $2000 you would sell I'm sure but other options are to invest in a pro refinish in something more saleable. Custom colours will require a white pickguard and if bought vintage will cost. A repro may reduce sale-ability.
Any comparison prices I make are done in GBP with the cost of shipping and customs to offset so best if you have a look on Reverb and get a sense of what the local market is; especially for stripped Jags as not many will be attracted to the refinish.
Mind you, at $2000 I may be wrong.

Re: I just bought this Jag? (1964 Jaguar)
Thanks for the feedback! If I were to refinish, I think I would break even, at best, on the cost of the work. I'll try selling at $2000 and see how it goes...Thanks again

Well if it was me I would start higher, you never know!
Can you imagine investing a wee bit of cash and ending up with this?
Then you wouldn't want to sell!
That one was refinished by 3RGuitars in the UK. looks awesome and might increase the value beyond the money invested; declared refinish and all.

That is one beautiful Jag! I actually built a surf green Jag a few years ago that scratches that itch. I would only refinish in sunburst, since the headstock is plain. Here in the states I would probably pay $500 for a good refin.

Wishing I lived in Oregan right now! Would you consider shipping to the UK?
