68 Neckplate
Hi all,
Is a neckplate with serial 218 4XX too early for my Jag with an Oct 68 neck stamp? I'm looking to buy one.

Re: 68 Neckplate
Scott, if you go to my profile at the FDP and look at the jpgs I have attached there, one is the graphical representation I have created of serial nos. verses year for jms and jag for the period 65 - 69.
The serial no 218 4XX is totally consistant with a 68 jag, I suspect the odds of it being for a guitar from 68 are quite good.
Eventually I'd like to put my graph somewhere here on our backyard.

Re: 68 Neckplate
Scott - I sold a '68 plate on ebay a few weeks ago. I started it at $99 with no reserve and it closed around $180. I turned down an offer to end the auction for $125.
Not that this does you any good now, but in case you were wondering what they are going for. I was a bit surprised myself, being tempted to take the $125...

Re: 68 Neckplate
Wow. I bought an L9XXXX plate on eBay a few months back for $50 that matches up with my late '65 perfectly. It did have some doofus's name lightly scratched into it but so what, it's better then $250 and really devalues the guitar none. I think the only reason it went for so little was that it was advertised as a jazz bass part only.

Re: 68 Neckplate
I just checked my completed auction, it was back in July and sold for $153.50 (shows how good my memory is). I listed about a dozen plates all at once.

Wow, Jay... a STEAL for $50, etched name or not!

I like searching for Startocasters and Telecatsers. You'd be surprised how frequently they come up.

That's how my eBay addiction started - several years back I got a mid-80s MIJ Strat for $175 because some keywords were misspelled and it was in the wrong section. It all went downhilll from there...
