Please forgive my ignorance, but is that burst right for a '58? I would assume that it would be much more along the lines of a two tone, or a much less "target" looking burst.

Thoughts?

The 3 tone (and the rosewood board) debuted on the Jazzmaster. It seems alot of the early 3TS had a really wide red band, especially the Jazzmaster and a few years later, the Jazz Bass.

As for this one, it's hard to say with 100% certainty without seeing it personally, but I'd say it's legit.

a lot of the old 3 tone sunbursts look kinda like 2 tone because the red has faded over the years, i guess that´s why one would be suspicious of one with so much red left in it...?

That looks like a refin to me. The amount of neck wear, the refret, new nut balanced against how clean the body is....hhmmmmm.
Also, the burst on the back is like no other burst I have ever seen.

This looks very much legit to me. Especially with the little bump showing more yellow near the place where the player's arm would rest... My own Jaguar's got the same.

As for the neck's wear, it was sanded down, that's why it looks artificial.    I had the page translated with google translator and that's what it says.

Could well be. I didn't know about all that other stuff. I was commenting mainly on the somewhat 'different looking' red band as being the reason for suspicion. Sometimes it's hard to tell without seeing it in person, and/or looking inside. I personally would never pay today's crazy prices without knowing the seller or personally examining it.

:)

I can't see why not, if you can afford the price.
