I haven't wanted to think about the possibility that jaguar prices were heading the same direction that JM and strat prices had gone.
It was bought by someone who look like a dealer, so they will certainly add on their margin to the US $3,250.00 they paid to win the auction

Well, that is a particularly clean one, which obviously = megabuck sale to a Japanese collector who can't play guitar.
There was a nice blue refin pre-CBS Jag went for about $1400 yesterday I think. Jags still aren't that crazy .. you can still pick up pre-CBS Jag necks for about the price of a parted out CIJ neck .. !
Or to look at it another way, MIM Teles over here cost £600 .. = $1200 .. compare that to $1400 for a vintage Fender? Jags are still a bargain IMHO.

Yeah, but for how much longer? We should snap them all up. I was thinking that about 70s $trats and teles a few years ago, but didn't do it. Now the $850 '78 Strat is over 2K!
It fluctuates crazily. I watched a nice '63 CAR Jag recently (refin body, correct headstock)... go for $1600. I had offered $1500 and the seller turned it down, saying he had over 2K into it. My Oly '63 (from the article) only went for a little over $1400. Scottme just scored a nice '68 for 2002 prices. Meanwhile, some orig finish examples have hit record high, even sunbursts.
There are still bargains on refins, but if the Jag follows the JM example... We'll all wish we had snapped them up.

I really wish I had the means to pick up a couple more JMs and at least 2 or 3 Jaguars right now. Sadly I don't and I'm reduced to wishing I even had enough money to complete a $600 Japanese JM project
I regret not buying so many different things from a few years ago. I remember when I wanted a '52 Les Paul really badly and they were selling for like $4k then, but I never got one because I thought it was too much. Now look at them
But Jazzmasters are much cooler, so I don't regret the Paul
too much.

I paid 1k for my first JM in '92. It was CHERRY back then but a few years of giggin with it wore it a bit. I remember looking at loads of custom colors for 1800 and thinking how outrageous they were. I even turned down a worn yet cool bound 65 oly white for $1400 at one point.

The funniest part of this zombie thread isn’t the *shock* at a $3,250 Jaguar sale (lol, that’s a bargain price today), it’s the comments about the Jag following the JM market.
Uh, I would really like to buy Jazzmasters at 2006 prices, please. Even double 2006 prices would still be nice.

I'd love to see vintage offset prices charted against new MIM guitars as a baseline.
There are new MIMs here in Canada that are currently selling for more than what I paid for my '64 Mustang in 2017, which I bought at fair market value (not any kind of "deal") in great, all-original condition with OHSC.
While it does feel like vintage offsets have taken off to the moon compared to 10-15 years ago, the prices of new Fenders have, too. It feels more or less proportional here in Canada.
I mean, I bought my Squier VM Bass VI maybe 6 years ago when they were $379. The CV Bass VI is now $669, nearly double the price in 6 years. Our local vintage JM and Jaguar prices feel like they've gone up a very similar percentage.

I remember a local store having a refinished '65 Mustang for 1500 CAD as late as 2019. Hell, L&M had a mint '73 Competition Mustang for 1999 CAD. While new prices were being constantly jacked up, most of the second-hand increase we see happened after the pandemic onset.

I have so many unhealthy hindsight regrets and a lot of them are guitar related for sure.
Buying a Fender model T for $700 shipped and the most famous Emperor cab ever to go along with it for $400 delivered to my front door (the one where the kid didn’t pay them but for some reason they gave him the cab anyway and then had a meltdown and threatened to rape him in a Facebook post lol) and selling them 6 months later for $100 profit
Not buying any actual model Ts because $1200 was astronomical for any amplifier
Not buying Jazzmasters and Jaguars in all my dream combos for less than $1500 for the same reasons
Not buying the white first year Starcaster from a pawn shop here for $400 out the door because I knew nothing a out guitars back then and only thought “oh never seen one of these before it looks cool” and having the shop owner tell me it was shit and all 70s fenders were shit and other various bits of nonsense. Also sleeping on a Dan Armstrong Lucite Bass from there for $900. Also like 5 aluminum neck Kramers for $400 or less.
The one vintage guitar I’ve had the chance to own was an 8.5 pound burst 66 Jaguar that I loved but sold for $3,000 after having it listed for 7 months and only getting that much because the buyer had insurance money to spend and otherwise couldn’t find anyone willing to pay more than $2,000 for it and this was only 2/3 years ago, because I thought “well there are thousands of cbs Jaguars out there I can save up to buy another one!” Only to now realize that that same guitar isn’t listed anywhere for less than like $4500 somehow right now and I’ll probably never get one again unless it’s an MJT replica.

It's best not to look back at missed guitar opportunities that way.
I mean, you could just look at any given year from the late 90s to 2015 and say, "if I put a Jazzmaster's worth of money into Amazon stock, I could buy any Jazzmasters I wanted at today's prices without even batting an eye."
Nobody had a crystal ball, guitar-related or otherwise. Similarly, we might look back in 10 years and say, "I can't believe we were upset about the COVID guitar price bubble. Between the Mega-Depression in '27, The Nukening and the death of Boomers, it's easier to get a vintage electric guitar than it is a gallon of potable water."
