Slight update - started wet sanding today, gonna take at least a week to get this done, the finish is insanely thick as it is, otherwise I would have used another can of clear to bury the flake/flatten out the finish. I'm in for almost $100 in paint alone at this point in the game, time to sand/polish/reassemble this bad boy!

Moar later...

Just snapped this a couple seconds ago...

Image

It hangs in the corner of my garage...mocking me...not unlike The Tell Tale Heart...I just need to tell everyone "screw your schedule, *I* have a guitar to finish!!!"...

You will notice that progress stopped a couple months ago when school went back into session...and I have 3 kids...who also, for some reason, have become really good athletes, and as a result, play on WAY too many sports teams...life should return to kind of normal soon, as the oldest is getting his license shortly.

The upshot? Hoping to wet sand at night when everyone goes to bed, it's really the only way this is getting done before summertime...stay tuned, and apologies to stringing you guys along! - Anthony

This looks great! Are you planning on putting some kind of competition stripe on it?

I considered it, but nah - just going to be BMM in all it's glory. FWIW, the front of the body is wetsanded down (the orange peel on metallics is EPIC), digging into the back shortly.

Also, note that there is one tuner with no tabs left to hold it together... :derp: Thinking/hoping 2 drops of solder keeps it together...pray for me... :)

Heard of people puttin a thin piece of metal between tuner and headstock, like a shim to keep it together, might work better than solder

And here we are...one year after I started this thing...

Finally got fed up and got back to this the other night, first order of business was to deal with the tabs on the broken tuner...the path of least resistance was dropping some solder on what was left of the tabs, I was just hoping it didn't all wick down into the gears...

And, voila - it worked!

So here is the neck with the tuners re-installed...

And then the sanding on the back of the body started, having almost wrapped up the front now. Ever dealt with orange peel? This is as bad as I've ever had...and the nitro is HARD after almost a year of curing...

Image

Had to take a lot of it down with 200 grit, finally starting with the micromesh pads now, this might take a week of wedsanding if I put an hour a night in. Good thing I don't rely on guitar work to feed myself...

Good luck with the sanding.
Any particular reason for the long cure time? When I refinned my musicmaster, I only let it cure for two months.

Life, unfortunately... ;) I have 3 kids that I serve as a helicopter parent to, it's only because my oldest now drives that I actually had any time to squeeze this work in around midnight this week...more pics next week - I hope!
