Looks really good! Will you rear-mount the lipsticks as per original Dano? Makes for nice clean lines without screws all over the front of the guitar. 8)

Thanks!.... indeed, will rear-mount the pickups.... was excited to get the pups with the long legged mounting plate for that exact reason. Also waiting on a long-barrel input jack to edge mount it keeping a cleaner looking guard.... tele style edge plates all required 7/8" hole which didn't leave much meat to either side.

Simple black and white and super sweet pickguard = perfect guitar design. I do love Bigsby's, but this thing is perfect as is.

....I accept that responsibility ;) .... the "Vanguard" series have such seductive lines, it's easy to be enticed by them! Haven't seen that silver(?) burst finish before.... original?... ya gonna leave it? Metallic Turquoise finish these came in makes me weak in the knees!
Simple black and white and super sweet pickguard = perfect guitar design. I do love Bigsby's, but this thing is perfect as is.
;D ...had a bunch of ideas, ultimately, it guided/decided itself what it wanted to incarnate as. Trying to satisfy the Bigsby jones via SG
...assembled all parts other day so could hold as a whole and it feels ready to twang and growl! have all electronics and cut an aluminum nut... dress frets a bit, neck shimage, apply some solder,... strings... next week?!?

....not "done" done but pretty close...finally wired it up, cut an AL nut, strings, little neck shimmage now only a few cosmetic concerns remain... paint out some screw holes, age new screws, strap buttons...etc.

Thumbs up on initial shakedown! Yesteryear Danelectro pickups sound excellent with a lot of punch and clarity from their 4.9K outputs... and quiet!.... used copper foil to sheild the control cavity and AL foil on guard. Trying out headstock logo ideas cutting out colored graphic vinyl, maybe none at all... originnal round Trutone ones are silly expensive... oh yeah, changed title thread since determined this was probably a Trutone version based on the hockeystick headstock.

... might try a wound G string and eventually get compensated bridge saddles though no hurry as it intonates really well and stays in tune good enough for now. Bourn pots it was wired with have a much different feel to the CTS usually use, less friction...something to get used to. Digging the amp knobs and lever selector. Wish I located the input jack few more degrees counter clockwise becuase a straight end guitar cord bottoms out if you set it down on ground...oops, guess have to use the stand instead of leaning against amp. Found an old white plastic strap pin in the parts bin which will install thusly.
Image

...in a way, the beautiful aged subtle scalloping fretboard and slightly sunken dots guided the look of this redo in that the body needed light distressing and wear reflecting it's 50yrs... not abused, more like an old car you polished so much that the primer and metal began to show thru. The low frets are a bit to get used to, especially after playing my JMJM....hmmm maybe time to try a a first refret.

Image

Enjoying it as it sits ...Bigtime!... a real three chord monty kind of ride. After I get my recording blunders figured out will post some sound clips.
Cheers!

:-* :-* Very nicely thought out and executed, I really like it- you're on the right track with the graphic too IMO. All those parts you've chosen look so right, and that simple black/white/polished metal look is 8) 8) .
Totally cool.

Wow, that looks great! It makes me more confident about milk painting my xii project.

With a wound G string you could probably intonate it pretty well with the three saddle bridge. No need for compensated saddles.

Thanks all! Happy New Year!

Fun twangy punky player... when i brought it home and showed it to my 4yr old son he said "I like that cool rocket ship" referring to headstock logo, so will refine it a tad and maybe cut it out of some thin stainless sheet. He also cranked the selector lever 180 (luckily the set screw wasn't completely tight ;) ) to a much better position... easier to access mid strum.

Had to sell some gear to cover some bills (bye bye JMJM seeya again...crate v15)...luckily this guitar and L5 came to life at same time shortly after so mourning period was brief ;D

...it's all about expectations!...very forgiving process... applying the milk paint with a foam brush, some light sanding and oil finish really replicated that old raised grain surface you sometimes see... supposedly milk paint can be sprayed.!?! have to try that on another project.

Peace.
Dan
