The filing is a bummer, but otherwise you have a pickguard that would be kind of a pain to recreate, and it looks like whoever did it did a pretty decent job. It might be an impossible task, but I personally think it would be better to try and find someone who appreciates it for what it is and replace it with something that hasn't been altered so heavily.

...I ended up fixing it up in a bit of simpler way - sanding the chrome to take the shine down a bit, and then I gave it a bit of lacquer to make it look sorta like the correct color:

looks pretty good to me. i'm glad someone made some progress on it as neither blake nor I figured out what to do with it while it was in my possession.

Very cool! I remember when this was for sale on reverb, glad to see that this worked out. Late to the party here but I'm actively searching for an original 9-hole gold guard for a recently acquired (stripped) '58 Jazzmaster body that came with some original hardware (pat pending vibrato included). I'm sending the body off to Danocaster next week for a proper burst treatment. Very excited!
