€50 bargain 70s MIJ (?) Jazz Bass copy
yes and yet another €50 find (along with the Marlboro 2x10 amp - see the amp section for infos about that one) , i just HAD to get it.
i guess it's MIJ or early MIK from the mid-70s or so, guy found it in the attic and it was OH SO DIRTY.
...why did i have to get it?
check this out:
this is my brother Danys 1st band "Atomic Soul Destruction" in 1993, their final concert in our little town in Switzerland before we moved to Costa Rica, playing his 1st bass... which a little time after got lost (...long story...) in there. me and my brother have this love/hate thing going on, but i just could not not buy this thing - it's IDENTICAL!
yes i need a low E sting (shit is expensive i see...) and the non-original bridge pickup is dead - need to get another one. and new saddles (it has hardware store screws for the height adjustment!) etc. but basically it's playable as-is and it has got SOME BALLZ... and oh, it's HEAVEY!!!
but i did not have a normal scale bass anyway, and it just has all the looks i could love from a bass (well but i still need a decent 4001 copy)
i'll now try to find a spare pickup... OR does anybody here have or know of one?
btw, yes i read it with the multimeter - it's DEAD. the neck pup is about 8 or 9 ohm iirc, pretty hot for a bass pup, right?
just wanted to share my new found joy for the ultra-cheapies!
Pat.

found an original pickup for €10 (incl. shipping! ) and did some hackjob wiring - but it works now!
now all i need is a fat E sting (tomorrow i'll get some new ones) and i'm ready already!

Looks like Matsumoku 1969-1971 to me - maybe a Greco even?

Looks like those Ibanez copies - same line as their Jazzmaster thing that Kevin Shields played - the model name is just numbers like “2537” or something dumb.
Dope bass though that looks rad!

Greco JB420 - but it was probably labelled something else for export because a Greco logo would be under the finish. So, Matsumoku 1970-73 I reckon.
