1966 "Bass Boat" Mustang

Post by levensailor » Mon Dec 18, 2023 8:12 am

Just found this Mustang at a pawn shop in town and rolled the dice for $900. The lady called it "Bass Boat Blue" paint.
The neck is a dream and it sounds pretty good as is.

I ordered the correct tuners, knobs, and screws and a replacement control jack plate as the original has an extra hole in it for some reason.
I'll probably keep the pickguard for now.

I don't think they made humbucker mustangs in 1966 and it looks like the body has been routed to accommodate a PRS Dragon Treble, which appears to be a decent pickup. The other pickup I'm unsure if its original or not, but the wiring is not rope so I'm guessing no. No identification.

One of the pots appear to be original with markings A25K 8935.
The other looks Zinc and has written on it "(i)? 15C-500K F p?" Anyone have info on how to lookup pots?

Love love love that color! Pots are definitely not original and the neck pickup looks like an aftermarket as well. I would probably change the output jack too, as it looks pretty rusty. Great find!

Not even the one with the capacitor on it? That looked original according to some known vintage mustangs I found online..

My bad, I overlooked the pics. The one with the capacitor does look original indeed.

do you have a meter to read the neck pickup? It looks kinda like a dimarzio but would need to know the reading.
