I spent Sunday at my friend Matt's working on the neck - Matt did most of the work, I mostly watched and did a few things, like drill a few dot holes, and saw fret slots after he showed me how to do it. Here's some pics...

Making sure the base is flat - it wasn't, but it is after this step.



Cutting fret slots - time consuming, and kind of dull after about 4 or 5.



Creating the radius. more time consuming work - especially making sure its totally straight and even -


Then we cut the fret board close to shape, using a template that Matt made - no pics of that...
Then marked and drilled dot markers - and installed them.



Glued the new fret board down to the neck - lots of clamps.



Then side dots, and frets - missed pictures during both those steps. I should have gotten a pic of the fret press - really cool, and easy to use.

Here's the neck at the end of the day -




And finally, Matt rockin' the SG-2a - yes he looks a bit like Phil X.

The tremolo is a mess (at least the arm is sawn off and the "input" is upside down glued in..)
Do you know if it's possible to make a jazzmaster tremolo fit in there ?

Surfin'bird - yours looks great. I noticed the body on yours looks to be nicer than mine. Mine has a veneer on the front and back.

Yeah, sorry no binding - I knew I'd hear about it from the crowd!

I got the body and neck ready for color, and made a pick guard template - I'm holding off on paint until I get the pickups, and make sure everything is going to fit without any mods to the body.

Here's a pic of my high-tech body/neck holder - it took about 12 minutes to build, and it's been used to do about 10 guitars -

I am planning for a scratch build of the SGV/SG-2a.
The problem is that I don’t have a guitar to measure.
I would really appreciate if you or anybody else that owns a SGV or SG-2a can measure your guitar!

I am also working on a plan for the Yamaha SGV (using Corel Draw) based on the original Yamaha part list sketch.
Eventually I will publish them on the forum.

This guitar was/is SOOOO far ahead of the usual pack in terms of parts and build quality that its equal will probably not be seen again.

If you can possibly find some original pickups and the missing vibrato parts, you'll have much more than just a pretty body. These parts, the wiring, and even the knobs are of exquisite manufacturing quality. NOTHING compares in terms of production stuff. Yammy had the R & D money and the investment shows.

I have 2 of these, and unfortunately they're not my fave colors--Kandy Green and CAR--when so much else is possible. Someday they'll receive new paint work.

Kikey, I'll PM you the dimensions you need. Guitars are at my studio.

How is the sg-2a doing ?

Finished! (more or less, there's a few little things to do before it 100% finished)

I'll take better pics at some point, but for now, these are okay I guess.
