I did spray the pots with contact cleaner but it goes way beyond that. Like I might need to use some steel wool or something haha.

Nothing recently, been pretty busy lately, but I will have some time pretty soon to get the pots cleaned up and see if that makes a difference.

The bass is a 66 or 67 - the truss rod adjustment at the headstock and the "duck foot" tuners are the give away. The original color would have been pearlescent white.

Get it sorted out - these are great basses, especially for guitar players.

Also, check out the mosriteforum.com site if you haven't already.

I have a few Celebrities and those look like real numbers. Most people didn't even know what 666 was until the Exorcist in 1973. Clean or change the pots but don't get rid of anything. Mosrite had their own style of wiring. They had a clean wire going from pot to pot as a ground. The knobs alone are worth a pretty penny. Those pickups must be super raunchy. I would paint it white to look Ramones-ish anyway. The old ones could have been plain white, vs. pearl. The tort guards are more rare.

I have refinished with nitro, but it sounds like they used nitro and polyester. You could do worse than Oly White Reranch with tinted clear. But if it were my dad'sI would probably sport the look it has now, with an Elvis Costello vibe.
