Any updates on the guitar? Curious about the headstock specifically, as one of my projects is going to have a matching headstock and custom decal.

Finally I won't paint the headstock. I've ordered a Westminster Replica logo that is now in right place and varnish. I'll take some photos soonJaws of Joey wrote:Any updates on the guitar? Nice. Have you finished it yet? I have a similar problem with an old mustang body. Original competition car refinished with fiesta red. How have you removed the green finish? Did you made it all with hands or did you use some machines? I'm really new in restoring and don't know, how to start...
Do i have any chance to get the refinish off with something like sandblasting or glassblasting?

JESUS NOOOOOOOO!!!!!
Removing an overspray can be done very very effectively, especially when over a relatively tough late sixties/early seventies poly finish, but you've got to be gentle.
Get like, 1000 or maybe 1500 grit wet and dry paper, soak it so it's good and wet, then use a sanding block to make sure it's all flat and patiently sand it back.
There are other things to try if that doesn't seem to be touching it, but that's my starting point. I've done this quite a few times now, and very often the overspray isn't even that well adhered to the original paint and with a little work it basically flakes off. If you've only gone at it with high grade paper, all that needs to happen with the original finish is a spot off buffing compound and it's all done

Why not start a thread about it? Looks like a cool project...Just make sure you do enough research and be gentle and cautious.

The only way to remove properly the paint is to use a scraper, or some sort of razor blade (be very careful with your hands using such tools : wear secured gloves).jagstang wrote:Nice. A wood scraper is not expensive and very useful. Take time to remove the paint with this tool, and you'll perhaps have to polish the original finish then.

I used wet sanding paper. Got a good result. I did a own thread: http://www.offsetguitars.com/forums/vie ... 1&t=102112" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
