If it's affordable, then it makes sense. Lots of folks sell these at such a ridiculous premium. I saw some from andrewaward - are those his tuners? He's a good dude.

Yeah they're his. We might work out a trade for my Nash Stratocaster ;D

I'd go repros unless some originals fell into my lap.

I'm currently mulling over repros vs. original tuners for a project I'm working on. I think I'm going to go with repros. It might look a little too shiny, but way cheaper and (hopefully) more reliable.

I sold my vintage Klusons years ago...I have used reissues (Gotohs, I think) for years with no problems.

Yes, I think that is the right move. Your '61 has reissues?

UPDATE:

I moved from Los Angeles to Chicago (I'm in school in Chicago) for the year and I should get the guitar sometime early next week. I'm excited to begin restoring this thing! I'll post tons of pics throughout the process. Just need to figure out who will do all the woodwork (fixing the tuner holes and prepping the body) and order the new Klusons. I was thinking black, but now Gold is really calling me (my favorite guitar finish ever). The problem is that I like Aztec Gold more than Shoreline Gold, and the former wouldn't really be right, so I think it's between Shoreline Gold and Black for now.

If I end up doing the refin - I can put some aged Klusons on there for pretty cheap for you and they will be BETTER than original tuners (as far as what they are supposed to do)

I've got repros on almost all of my vintage guitars - with the originals in the case

You'll be getting the refin :?

I contacted you a few weeks back about the LPB but now I'm thinking about black or gold. The guitar will be in my possession tomorrow and I'll have to figure out how to remove those signatures and prep it!

Finally got the guitar in! It smells funny, probably hasn't been setup in years, but it actually plays reasonably well (even with super, super high action). Plugged it in and wow! Sounds fantastic too. This will compliment my '66 nicely. All the electronics seem to be working fine, although they could probably use a cleaning.

Here it is:

But because I'm impatient and was dying to get this started, here it is without the signatures. I just used some acetone, which ate through the clear coat in some parts. Of course, this is no big deal because I need to have body prepped for a Danocaster refin! I've decided on black, since the guard is a little orange, and I think the orange faded guards on black Jazzmasters look amazing (doesn't show well in the pictures).
