iphone app?
Hey is there an iphone app for this forum or an app currently in development? I think it'd be sweet.

This topic has been brought up before. Unfortunately, there's no dedicated app.

If one is made, please don't neglect your Andoid users.
I finally finish building a guitar, go to play it, and then remember, "oh yeah, that's right. I suck at playing... Why did I build another guitar again?"

Re: iphone app?
I would love an Android app as I don't have internet access at home and navigating the regular OSG site on my phone can be a bit frustrating at times.

Re: iphone app?
There are so many reasons why we haven't done this. The main being time, it takes time, unless we use something like Tapatalk which will inundate you with ads, and frankly, I tried it and thought it sucked. I much preferred simply pinch zooming to see what I wanted to someone elses interface overlay. We have, or had a separate stylesheet for apple mobile devices. I think it's still doing some styling but I can double check. it did help some, links were bigger and easier to hit but it wasn't a whole lot different than the normal site. I don't have an android device to test with so never got around to doing something for it and I'm not sure if all the OS fragmentation would present issues with a CSS only approach there either.

What about instead of an app, just make the site more mobile friendly, so we don't have to do the stretch the screen thing.

Something along the lines of m.offsetguitars.com ?AWSchmit wrote:What about instead of an app, just make the site more mobile friendly, so we don't have to do the stretch the screen thing.
That'd be pretty nice!

Or just update the site to auto format. But either way is fine.Gonkulator wrote:Something along the lines of m.offsetguitars.com ?AWSchmit wrote:What about instead of an app, just make the site more mobile friendly, so we don't have to do the stretch the screen thing.

Re: iphone app?
Posting here works really jumpy/buggy on my Android and makes even completing a single post a very frustrating experience.
Not sure what Tom (Dalton, owner of Fuzzhugger) uses for the mobile version of the Ilovefuzz forum, but it's not an app and it works really well! ILF is also run on phpbb, so maybe it's as easy as just adding that feature to the existing setup?

Admittedly, I'm not a phone guy... but I'm just going to throw one down for the "it is what it is" camp. IF anyone else is even in it
I can certainly live without scratching the itch to cruise/post OSG "anywhere/any time/all the time".
Developing, testing and debugging those things means a LOT of work and takes a lot of time. Jay has already alluded to that.
I'm pretty sure we all have better things to do with our time, no?

Re: iphone app?
Well, I totally get that "no need to have constant access" thing, but I typically do my browsing on my phone while in transit or in bed in the morning/at night, and the phone is how I do it. I don't mean to complain, or be demanding -- especially as a newer member, but that's the reason this subforum is here, right? I also get that developing an app takes a lot of time which would take away from general forum management and might not benefit enough users to be worth the investment. Hence I offered a possible option that is already stable and working and would likely not cause too much trouble. This seems like a cool community -- I just want to be able to enjoy it and participate!
