Question about the time out function.

I was typing a reply when my session timed out a few minutes ago. Normally that's not much of a problem, I click back, copy the text, log in, click to get to the reply page, paste the text and post the reply. Now, I couldn't get back to the reply. I just got the log-in screen again. Has something changed?
