Private Messaging Problems

Post by Kilgore Trout » Tue Aug 04, 2009 6:58 pm

I can't read any private message being sent to me. I get a "Delete message - This message has been removed by its author before it was delivered" instead of the message.

I haven't tried replying yet.

Am I the only one?

Well, replying worked. And I did get a message from someone this time. But I'm still getting "Delete message - This message has been removed by its author before it was delivered" warnings.

What's that all about?

I've been sending and receiving a bunch so its not a board wide thing. I'll send you one and try sending me one.

It should work now: I've managed to send a private message to BDM, and he replied. I don't know what was going on before.

I still have a number of older messages, stuff I received before the switch, that are marked "Delete message - This message has been removed by its author before it was delivered"

Could it be that we're clicking on save instead of submit? I mean, would mistakenly clicking on save instead of submit create this problem?

Ok, I replied to your first message. I'm quite certain you got that.

Also, I wrote a second message, and then I clicked on save, and when it asked me if I really wanted to save, I said no. Did you get a "Delete message - This message has been removed by its author before it was delivered" message?

I noticed the same thing.. had well over 900 messages in my in and out boxes. there's a 100 message limit so I was a bit over it, I've deleted all the old stuff and haven't had any trouble since

I have a few hunderd PMs as well and all the older ones are marked that way so maybe that's your problem?

The reason for the limit is that folks simply were never removing them and that shit takes up loads of database space. You wouldn't believe how much of a pain in the ass it is to manage a mysql database of this size. It literally took 30 something hours just to index the site so it would be searchable. Otherwise I would have had us up on Sunday as expected.
