Communal Buying

Post by Naturality » Wed May 30, 2007 1:08 pm

I just had an idea! How about we have a list in a section of the forum of people who want to buy from ishi or similar japanese place, amd once that list grows to say 10 people, they buy it in one order, saving on delivery costs

But they would be sent to different places, which would still cost the same to ship. Unless maybe there was some kind of bulk discount rate that they would be willing to do.

Oh yeah... I didn't think of that  ???

Although we could have people in certain areas, for example zhiv could be in charge of England, and yet you'd still get  a cheaper guitar but with about £20 postage once it's in the country.

The customs charges would be through the roof.

Wouldn't they still be the same per piece? Or is there a sliding scale so that a higher percentage is charged for more expensive items? I've never managed to achieve a higher VAT rate than the standard (27% or whatever it is) but nothing would surprise me with UK Customs ..

I guess we'd have to work it out based on each individual guitar, and compare it to the cost of the entire shipment as a whole. It's usually 3% import tax then 17.5% VAT I believe.

Sorry, yeah 17.5% was the figure I should've had in mind .. when I'm buying from overseas I mentally add on a quarter of the price, and it usually comes out a little lower so I'm not too unpleasantly surprised.

Haha that's a good way to look at it, it ends up cheaper than you expected.

If you're wondering where that is... Read it again...  :P

There has been the same proposition on a French forum a couple of years ago, they even contacted Ishibashi and Ikebe... The discount they could do wasn't worth it (can't remember exactly, but it was like ¥1000 on each axe), and they could only send to one adress; add the dispatch in your own country, and you might actually waste money. For people living in the same area, it's worth asking them, but that's all.

If each member of this forum sent me $1US through PayPal, I could buy a CIJ Jazzmaster. I think that's a much better idea.
