Don't get distracted! I think the thurston looks way better. I think the tvl color would wear onme fast, but I don't find its color very appealing from the get go.

Let me preface this by saying, this was all online. I hadn't seen or played any of these guitars in person. I was between the TVL, the AV65, and these new Classic Series coming out this month. I watch the online retailers used stuff and AMS had used TVL's for $995. I saw some used AV's for around $1800 and the Classic series is new so it's $999 or something. I had pretty much talked myself into the TVL. It has a great set of specs. But I like lacquer for the feel. I was doing my last pre-purchase window shopping online and found a "Mint" used TM from Music123 on ebay for like $1267. Music123 is somehow the same as MF and MF showed the same used TM on their site as well. Anyways, I called Music123 and they gave me the ebay price on the phone. Now like I said, I never got a chance to play the others. The AV65 was my first choice, but I wasn't over the ledge on the price. Ultimately what swayed me on the TM is, I like satin finished guitars. I really didn't want another thick coated Fender. I liked the idea of the larger frets. And, the SD Antiquities were the closer. Now the TVL is well appointed, but I wasn't sure on the color because I have a midnight wine Strat and I find myself loathing that color. Barring that I didn't get the AV65 (my first choice), I have no regrets about the TM. I've only had it a few weeks and it is starting to polish where I rest my palm and on the forearm. And, just for transparency, I'm not a SY or TM fanboy or anything.

SOT, I'm going to see Queens of the Stone Age tonight!

Thanks for back me up guys... I think the Thurston is the way to go for me. You're right, the TVL is a little strange, I mean it's pretty but I have a feeling I would grow tired of it. The idea of the other features it has are cool but not sure if it's the way to go, plus it's made in Mexico as opposed to the Thurston made in the USA. Will report back soon after I order it.... :)

Zastruga and I played a TVL at Corner Music in Nashville on tour a month or so ago and we were both impressed with it, but I don't think either one of us would take one over a Thurston.

High praises! All I have to do is click SUBMIT and it's ordered, I'm nervous as this is the most expensive guitar I've ever purchased in the past 21 years of playing. ;D

I think after 21 years of playing it is time to reward yourself! At least that is how I justify expensive guitars!

TRUE FACT IS TRUE.

Joined OSG this year. Prior to joining, purchase a new guitar every few years, if I am lucky.

After joining OSG, bought:

1965 Jaguar
1965 Jazzmaster
1 MJT JM parts build
1 BottomMaster
1 Kramer DMZ aluminum Neck

LOL. I joined in 2009.. Already had a CIJ J Mascis Jazzy, an EKO ranger VI, and a 1961 Harmony Rocket. Now I have a CIJ Competition Mustang, a CIJ JM66B, a Gibson SG Standard, an Ernie Ball Bass, a Tanglewood acoustic and way too many effects pedals and have had three different amps since then. I thought I was happy with my gear... Not that I wasn't, but these guys got me drooling over so many other things..

Geez... if OSG members made commissions we would all be doing pretty well financially! :)
