new bass for girlfriend day.

Post by s_mcsleazy » Sun May 24, 2015 1:09 am

so i traded away one of my guitars for a pretty sweet bronco bass. im going to give it to my girlfriend because she wants to learn bass. im gonna put a few mods into it (lipstick pickup, black guard, change the pots and caps) but here is what we got so far.

it has a fender decal but it looks pretty good. im not so much into the chrome cover.

With a few tweaks it will be a nice guitar.

the "ashtray" ? im not using it. i've always thought they look ugly and impede good bass playing.

fair play to you. i got one on my p bass just to give it that 50s/60s look, but over time i have gotten used to playing with it and i'll rest my palm on it when playing with a pick to the point where it feels right to me now.

but they don't really suit the bronco, mustang bass that much i suppose at least i'm not accustomed to seeing them have one.

I love Broncos. It says Fender on it? Where was it made?

Where are you going to get the pickguard? I dyed my Bronco pickguard and it looks pretty sweet but it shrank ever so slightly. Still fits but can't send it off as a template for a new guard.

I love the look of ashtrays on a jazz and precision but they sure do impede good bass playing. Im kinda glad that they put them on Custom Shop basses so I can never tell if I like them or not. Saved me tons of money I'm sure.

You all got the ashtray thing wrong!
The bridge cover can be used as an ashtray. The Pickup-Cover less so...
Many players, esp. in the 70's, removed them immediately and they got their nickname from the widespread use as ashtrays in rehearsal rooms.
