Why did Staytrem discontinue the adjustomatic drop in?

Post by dvrader » Sun Apr 23, 2017 10:02 pm

I have one in my jmjm and really like it. I was looking for a replacement for my jag and saw this:

"The Staytrem Jaguar / Jazzmaster bridge is not a suitable replacement for guitars with an Adjusto-matic bridge as shown above.
This includes Classic Player series, J Mascis Jazzmaster, Pawn Shop Jaguarillo, Kurt Kobain Jaguar and Thurston Moore Jazzmaster.
We did make a conversion but this is currently unavailable."

Is there a problem with the bridge that I am unaware of?

Maybe just sent him a message and ask him directly?

"500€? That's the price of a J Mascis Jazzmaster!"

It probably wasn't selling well enough to be cost efficient.

I have to imagine that there's still a good market for these, between Classic Players and J Mascis JM's...although (obviously) they would know if this were the case or not. I would certainly love to pick one up.

I had one on my since departed Mascis - was really good. No idea why it was canned.

Because fuck the Tune-O-Matic bridge on Jazzmasters and Jaguars, that's why. If you made such a stupid decision to buy one of those awful instruments then you should have to live with what you've done and no one should ever help you.

How's that. Let's get a thread going.

Back in my day we used to wrap our own posts in electrical tape or aluminum or whatever else we could find. And if we wanted a tune-o-matic we would fill those gaping holes with wood, bondo or whatever and redrill, dagnabbit!

Honestly, I would be happier with the conversion thimbles if they still offered them.

I just got an email response from staytrem:

There are no issues with the drop in bridge, we just do not have enough
manufacturing capacity to produce them.
We are receiving such high demand for our products that something had to
go and unfortunately it was the drop in bridge.

Between Larry's comment & your chart, my evening has been made. I had a CP Jazzmaster for a while & I have to agree with Larry.

I have a TOM on a JMJM and it actually operates flawlessly. The Squire's trem comes back to the right position after a moderate use better than the Fender non locking trem on my Road Worn Jag. I'd still rather have a Staytrem then a TOM. Perhaps I'll try to make one myself this summer.
