I'm with you on the (Firemist?) gold, but I'd lose the tort for a mint or parchment guard here as well.alexpigment wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2019 10:59 amMaybe I'm weird here. I think the gold one looks great. It also has more color contrast than the original. I just thought it was overall too dark and maroon (a mint guard would have helped).

There was an OSG member (carron) who had a mint guard on his TVL and it looked sublime. I believe his guitar was stolen, and the photos he posted are now down, but you're correct that mint looks fantastic on oxblood.alexpigment wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2019 10:59 amMaybe I'm weird here. This gold colour is too orangey to be gold and too gold to be orange, definitely not my thing (especially with the tort).

Switching is totally vintage accurate, just with a single switch changed for another style... essentially an aesthetic/small change but it functions exactly the same and yeah, didn’t bother me personally in any way. I understood it wasn’t supposed to be a reissue, but the guitars it’s modeled after have a different decal and the block inlays are something Fender never ever used and if some random buyer is anything like me, the idea that it looked like a CBS variant was the main draw, but having it in your hands and looking at it in person, the fact that the blocks are slightly different becomes like this Telltale Heart level annoying thing that, yeah, I couldn’t fully reconcile.adamrobertt wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2019 9:15 amBut you were OK with the non vintage accurate switching? I do not like the new color. i would instantly bought a second one, if the color were like the Johnny Marr Jaguar in Metallic KO
anyway, that Oxblood Red is still wonderful!

I agree this colour looks great, although the tort guard doesn’t do it any favours. I’d probably go with parchment, or mint as several others have suggested.alexpigment wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2019 10:59 amMaybe I'm weird here. I think the gold one looks great. I really like most of, if not all of Fender's gold colors. And I do enjoy tort, but prob a little less than your average OSG :-)
That being said, I totally agree with you that the tort "drags" things down on this guitar. This gold looks very similar (but not the same as) to Aztec Gold, but the tort makes it looks a bland, dreary brown.
Parchment looks to be the ticket :-)
For reference (FCS faded aztec gold, AV65 aztec gold):

I think both of those are mint guards. The latter just has a brighter light on it (see body color and silver hardware brightness for reference) and better matched pickup covers. For what it's worth, Fender's parchment to me always looks way too white.

This link will take you to the Board To Death from 2017. The very first TVL prototype was this color. I guess that they are making into a thing.

Re: Am I high or is there a new Troy Van Leeuwen color?
After owning a handful of Jags as well as other offsets I think this might convince me into buying a jazzmaster. I loved the TVL JM when it first came out but the “metallic oxblood” was a hair too dark for me. It checks alotta boxes for me with the block and bound neck, matching headstock and vintage appointments but the copper is REALLY doing it for me.
For the folks that aren’t impressed or even compare it to baby poo(p), how is copper not a perfect option? Not as gawdy as gold and not as bland as silver?! This might even make me start listening to Queens of the Stone Age now...probably not though.

I’m only saying in partial jest. I was Ok with the switch, it was actually functional for me. So were the 500k pots and swapped-in Mastery. My “family heirloom” Spitfire put me in with the ‘right’ switch though.

It's kind of an odd gold color, but I like it better than that hideous maroon. Is it a matte finish? It sort of looks like that. I hope so, because that would make it an instant deal killer and I wouldn't have to spend more money on another guitar.
